Over the past years, the Salt and Power project has investigated the role of salt production and resource control in the emergence of early states in Tyrrhenian central Italy, focusing on the site of Piscina Torta near Ostia. This concluding event brings together the full team to share our scientific results, our experimental work, and the creative outputs that have accompanied the research journey.

The afternoon programme begins at 15:00 and includes:

  • 15:00 – Introduction and presentation of the site of Piscina Torta (Attema & Alessandri)
  • 15:40 – Experimental archaeology in Nazzano (Sotgia & Fischetti)
  • 16:10 – Coffee break
  • 16:30 – Screening of the documentary Salt and Fire: the Nazzano Experiment, with the authors Damiani and Di Pietro
  • 17:00 – Presentation of the graphic novel Salt Doesn't Wait for Dreams, with the authors Schreiner and Piacentini
  • 17:30 – Conclusions (Alessandri, Attema & Sotgia)

The workshop can be attended either in person at the KNIR or online via live stream. Registration is required for all participants through the following page, where the streaming link will also be provided:
