Today we have good news about the programme of animated films at the Portuguese Cinema Days in Berlin. In addition to the programme published here, there will be a special session this coming Friday, 24.11, at 19:00:
"from architecture to animation - a personal journey by Pedro Serrazina"

In this masterclass, Pedro Serrazina explores animated space - backgrounds, frames - as a way of telling stories and expressing personal experiences and cultural identity in the world of animation.

Pedro Serrazina is an award winning director, senior lecturer and animation researcher. His first short, The Tale about the Cat and the Moon, premiered internationally at the Cannes Film Festival, in 1996. Since then his work has expanded from short films to international site-specific installations, music videos, workshops and academic projects. Serrazina is interested in the interconnections between architecture, public space and animation. He completed his MA degree at the Royal College of Art, London, and a practice-based PhD on “The creation and use of animated space as tool to reflect on social space”, at Universidade Lusófona, Lisbon. At Univ. Lusófona he is a senior lecturer in the BA and MA animation courses. His projects and work have been exhibited internationally (Tunisia, São Paulo, USA, Montreal, Lisbon...), a recent highlight being a UN commission to work with Tunisian communities on the theme of local empowerment. He is co-organizer of Ecstatic Truth, an annual symposium dedicated to the interconnections between animation and documentary practice. A member of the Society for Animation Studies, Serrazina hosted the annual SAS 2019 conference in Lisbon and is currently preparing his next short documentary film, What remains of us. In his spare times he nurtures his passion for vinyl and graphic novels.

Pedro Serrazina é professor, investigador e realizador premiado de cinema de animação. Desde a sua primeira curta, “Estória do gato e da Lua”, estreada internacionalmente no festival de Cannes, o seu trabalho tem várias expressões, entre a curta-metragem, as instalações “site-specific”, videoclips, workshops, publicações e projetos académicos, num percurso marcado pelas relações entre a arquitetura, o espaço público e o cinema de animação. Serrazina concluiu o grau de Mestrado no Royal College of Art, em Londres (como bolseiro da Fundação Gulbenkian) e, como bolseiro da FCT, o doutoramento na Univ. Lusófona de Lisboa, onde leciona nos cursos de animação (licenciatura e mestrado). Membro da Society for Animation Studies e do comité científico do simpósio anual Ecstatic Truth, dedicado às relações entre cinema de animação e documentário, está atualmente a preparar um novo filme, “O Que Sobra de Nós”. Nos tempos livres Pedro Serrazina é um ávido colecionador de vinil e novelas gráficas.
