In 2024, we mark the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, a pivotal moment in Portugal's history. Therefore, this year our festival Portuguese Cinema Days in Berlin will delve into themes of dictatorship, colonization, and the revolution's impact on both Portugal and the African countries liberated from Portuguese colonial rule. Through film and discussion, we aim to explore these narratives and their enduring relevance in shaping history and society today.
Looking ahead to November, that's when our main event will unfold. However, this month we're preparing for a significant celebration on Sunday, April 28th, commemorating the revolution of April 25th, 1974, and fifty years of Democracy. We warmly invite you to join us for:
FESTA DA LIBERDADE – 50 Jahre Nelkenrevolution

This celebration will feature:
🎥 Exhibition: Exploring the Portuguese revolution through an exhibition curated by ND-Aktuell and the Willi Münzenberg Forum.
🎬 Film Screenings: Immerse yourself in cinematic stories of the dictatorship and the revolution with multiple screenings throughout the day.
🗣️ Debate: Engage in a thought-provoking debate with witnesses from the revolutionary times.
🍽️ Portuguese Gastronomy: Indulge in the flavors of Portugal with authentic culinary delights.
🎤 Concert: End the event with a sing-along concert,
where everyone can join in singing familiar resistance songs.
