“Women from my Country”, by Raquel Freire, presents a modern take on Maria Lamas’s iconic book, weaving together fourteen women’s stories in dialogue.
These are fourteen testimonies of life, resilience, and dignity — narratives that move and challenge us, sometimes drawing laughter, at other times leaving us breathless.
Within each woman lies a story where multiple forms of oppression intersect, and each individual embodies a singularity that reflects broader social forces.
Taken together, these accounts offer a portrait of the country’s structures and inequalities, while also celebrating the intelligence, courage, and sensitivity with which these Portuguese women strive for emancipation and the pursuit of happiness.

Em cada mulher, uma história onde se cruzam múltiplas opressões, em cada sujeito uma singularidade que é também a síntese de múltiplas determinações sociais.
