SPRINGFIELD, Ill., April 3 (UPI) - Democratic candidate for governor
Glenn Poshard is raising his self-imposed limits on campaign
contributions, while tying his campaign finances to lieutenant governor
nominee Mary Lou Kearns.
Poshard also said he plans to campaign in his home turf of Southern
Illinois on behalf of big city Democrats, including Sen. Carol Moseley-
Braun, D-Ill., who did not do well in that part of the state when she
first ran for statewide office in 1992.
``When you really look at her record, she has voted for the people of
all of Illinois,'' Poshard said. ``She has voted for the needs of
agriculture. She is in the best interests of rural Illinois.''
Poshard previously restricted individual contributions to $2,000.
Now, it will be $4,000 because he needs more money to pay for his and
Kearns' campaigns. He still plans to take no money from political action
committees, although he won't stop PAC funds from giving money to others
on his behalf.
The Republican candidates, by comparison, are not working a joint
campaign fund, although officials note lieutenant governor nominee
Corrine Wood has raised enough money to pay for her campaign without
having to rely on Ryan to support her financially.
