TEL AVIV, April 4 (UPI) - The leader of the Third Way party in
Israel's ruling coalition has warned its continued support for Prime
Minister Binyamin Netanyahu hinges on an early withdrawal from
Palestinian areas of the West Bank.
Party chairman Yehuda Har'el says a separation, even unilaterally,
from the Palestinians is necessary at any cost.
Har'el said today: ``We support him (Netanyahu) in the negotiations,
providing they end in the near future... which is measured in weeks, and
not too many.''
Netanyahu is resisting U.S. advice to withdraw from another 13
percent of the West Bank and restart the peace process. But some
hardliners in Netanyahu's coalition have threatened to turn against him
if he yields too much territory.
Har'el said his party favored a withdrawal from Palestinian areas in
the West Bank but opposes a pullback from the Jordan Valley and the
Judean Desert.
Har'el has met Netanyahu four times in the past 10 days. He said,
``We didn't threaten and didn't warn (about leaving the coalition) but I
believe he understood us well.''
The Third Way has four seats in the 120-member parliament and its
departure would complicate Netanyahu's government, following former
Foreign Minister David Levy's resignation from the cabinet.
