Early voting opens for runoffs

AUSTIN, Texas, April 6 (UPI) - Early voting begins today for the
April 14 runoff election, with only three statewide races remaining to
be decided for the Republican Party.

GOP voters will decide whether Railroad Commissioner Barry Williamson
or former Texas Supreme Court Justice John Cornyn will carry the banner
against Democratic nominee Jim Mattox in November.

Republicans will also select nominees for the Texas Court of Criminal
Appeals, Place 1 - Mike Keasler or Vicky Isaacks; and Place 2 - Harvey
Hudson or Cheryl Johnson.

There are no statewide runoffs in the Democratic Party, but both
parties have various district and county race runoffs throughout the
state.

Secretary of State Al Gonzales said, ``I urge all Texans to contact
their county clerk to obatin voting information specific to their
county.''

Early voting ends Friday.
