MERGER CLEARANCES

The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry has decided, on the
information at present before him, and in accordance with the
recommendation of the Director General of Fair Trading, not to refer
the following mergers to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission under
the provisions of the Fair Trading Act 1973:

Acquisition by Tate and Lyle plc of assets of Bayer AG,
namely its food ingredient business

Merger between United States Filter Corporation and
Culligan Water Technologies Inc

Proposed acquisition by Eurocamp plc of Baldwin plc

Proposed acquisition by Simon Hartley Ltd of certain assets
of Biwater Industries, namely Ham Baker

Proposed acquisition by NTL Incorporated of Diamond
Cable Communications plc

Proposed acquisition by NTL Group Ltd of the UK interests
of Vision Networks III BV

Proposed acquisition by The Associated Press of certain assets
of ABC News Intercontinental Inc, Independent Television News
Limited and Nine Network Australia Limited, namely Worldwide
Television News Corporation
