_INFRASTRUCTURE WORKS FUNDING APPROVED FOR
REGINAS GLOBE THEATRE_

_REGINA, Saskatchewan -- Natural Resources Minister Ralph Goodale and
Saskatchewan Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol
Teichrob today announced $100,000 in funding for Reginas Globe Theatre
under the Canada-Saskatchewan Infrastructure Works Program._

The _Infrastructure Works_ funding is directed toward the upgrade and
installation of an air exchange and cooling system, which is part of a
$1 million refurbishment being undertaken by the _Globe Theatre_ that
includes renovating the theatre interior, seating, flooring, railings,
heating system and production equipment.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the renovations of
Reginas unique and historic Globe Theatre," said _Minister Goodale_,
on behalf of _Ron J. Duhamel, Secretary of State for Western Economic
Diversification_ and Minister responsible for implementation of the
infrastructure program in Western Canada. "The theatre has a fairly
significant impact on the local economy and funding will ensure the
theatre is maintained as a modern, vibrant facility."

"This infrastructure funding for the _Regina Globe Theatre_ will
contribute toward the refurbishment of theatre facilities," said
Teichrob, Minister responsible for the _Canada-Saskatchewan
Infrastructure Works Agreement_. "For more than 30 years, the _Globe
Theatre_ has played an important leadership role in the performing
arts of _Saskatchewan_ and has made a significant contribution to the
cultural life of our communities."

"The tremendous success of the _Imagine This! Capital Campaign_ so far
can be attributed to the support of all sectors of the community. We
are very grateful to the federal and provincial governments for their
generous contribution," said _Ruth Smillie_, artistic director of the
Globe Theatre.

The original _Canada-Saskatchewan Infrastructure Works Program_,
signed in January 1994, is estimated to have created more than 6,000
short-term jobs, while at the same time making essential improvements
to infrastructure throughout the province worth more than $360
million.

Federal funding for this initiative was provided for in the February
1998 budget and is therefore built into the existing fiscal framework.
This project underlines the commitment of both governments to
establish spending priorities that will best serve the people of
_Saskatchewan_ through efficient use of their tax dollars.
