BASEBALL --------
Chicago White Sox -- Optioned pitcher Jim Parque to Calgary of
the Pacific Coast League (AAA).
Cincinnati Reds -- Claimed outfielder Tony Tarasco on waivers
from the Baltimore Orioles.
Cleveland Indians -- Placed pitchers Chad Ogea and John Smiley
on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22nd; claimed
pitcher Rick Krivda on waivers from the Baltimore Orioles.
Detroit Tigers -- Purchased the contracts of infielder Bill
Ripken and catcher Joe Oliver; designated catcher Marcus Jensen
for assignment; moved outfielder Trey Beamon from the 15 to
60-day disabled list.
Florida Marlins -- Optioned pitchers Rob Stanifer and Manuel
Barrios to Charlotte of the International League (AAA);
reassigned pitcher Nelson Lara to minor-league camp; placed
third baseman Bobby Bonilla on the 15-day disabled list,
retroactive to March 22nd.
Kansas City Royals -- Optioned outfielder Jermaine Dye to Omaha
of the American Association (AA); reassigned Carlos Mendez to
the minor-league camp; gave pitcher Chris Hammond his
unconditional release.
Texas Rangers -- Announced that infielder Scott Cooper has been
released from his contract with Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast
League (AAA); sent catcher Rick Wrona and outfielder Les Norman
to their minor-league camp for reassignment.
Toronto Blue Jays -- Released outfielder Jacob Brumfield and and
returned pitcher Luis Andujar to their minor league camp.

Cleveland Cavaliers -- Placed forward Henry James on the injured
list with diabetes mellitus; activated forward Danny Ferry from
the injured list.

Arena Football League -- Entered into a letter of intent to
purchase the patent, trademark and copyrights associated with
the Arena Football Game on a worldwide basis from Gridiron
Enterprises, Inc.
HOCKEY ------
Anaheim Mighty Ducks -- Traded defenseman Dmitri Mironov to the
Detroit Red Wings for defenseman Jamie Pushor and a fourth-round
pick in the 1998 draft; acquired the rights to goaltender
Patrick Lalime from the Pittsburgh Penguins for center Sean
Pronger; acquired center Josef Marha from the Colorado Avalanche
for left wing Warren Rychel and a conditional 1999 draft pick.
Calagry Flames -- Sent left wing Todd Hlushko and centers Jim
Dowd and Hnat Domichelli to Saint John of the American Hockey
League.
Chicago Blackhawks -- Acquired right wing Ryan Vandenbussche
from the New York Rangers for defenseman Ryan Risidore.
Detroit Red Wings -- Acquired defenseman Jamie Macoun from the
Toronto Maple Leafs for a fourth-round pick in the 1998 draft;
sent goaltender Norm Maracle to Adirondack of the American
Hockey League.
Florida Panthers -- Traded right wing Ray Sheppard to the
Carolina Hurricanes for goaltender Kirk McLean.
Los Angeles Kings -- Recalled center Jason Morgan from
Springfield of the American Hockey League; recalled right wing
Vitali Yachmenev on an emergency basis from Long Beach of the
International Hockey League; agreed to terms with goaltender
Mike Buzak on a contract for the remainder of the season.
New York Islanders -- Traded left wing Paul Kruse and defenseman
Jason Holland to the Buffalo Sabres for right wing Jason Dawe.
New York Rangers -- Traded right wing Mike Keane, center Brian
Skrudland and a conditional draft pick in 1998 or 1999 to the
Dallas Stars for left wing Bob Errey, right wing Todd Harvey and
a 1998 fourth-round draft pick; sent center Marc Savard, right
wing Vladimir Vorobiev and goaltender Dan Cloutier to Hartford
of the American Hockey League.
Philadelphia Flyers -- Acquired defenseman Dan McGillis and a
second-round draft pick in 1998 from the Edmonton Oilers for
defenseman Janne Niinimaa.
Phoenix Coyotes -- Acquired center Mark Janssens from the New
York Islanders for a ninth-round draft pick in 1998.
St. Louis Blues -- Traded right wing Joe Murphy to the San Jose
Sharks for defenseman Todd Gill; acquired center Mike Eastwood
from the New York Rangers for center Harry York.
Tampa Bay Lightning -- Traded defensemen Bryan Marchment and
David Shaw to the San Jose Sharks for right wing Andrei Nazarov
and a conditional exchange of 1998 draft picks; traded left wing
Jason Wiemer to the Calgary Flames for right wing Sandy McCarthy
and a third-and fifth-round draft pick in 1998.
Toronto Maple Leafs -- Traded defenseman Jeff Brown to the
Washington Capitals for defenseman Sylvain Cote; traded
defenseman Mike Kennedy to the Dallas Stars for an eighth-round
pick in the 1998 draft; recalled defenseman Jeff Ware from St.
John's of the American Hockey League.
Vancouver Canucks -- Traded defenseman Dave Babych and a
sixth-round pick in the 1998 draft to the Philadelphia Flyers
for a third-round pick in the 1998 draft.
Providence Bruins (AHL) -- Recalled defenseman Andrei Yakhanov
from Charlotte of the East Coast Hockey League; assigned
defenseman Charles Paquette to Charlotte.
Las Vegas Thunder (IHL) -- Acquired forward Paxton Schulte and
defensemen Sami Helenius and Keith McCambridge from the Saint
John Flames of the American Hockey League for defensemen Steve
Bancroft and Justin Kurtz; signed defenseman Brian Curran.

Gene Nead $2,500 each due to their actions before Saturday's
Busch Series Diamond Hill Plywood 200. Announced Nead will be
suspended until April 15th and both Parsons and Nead will be on
probation until December 31st, 1998.
