The IKON 3 Point Attack is a major fundraising project of
Coaches vs. Cancer, an alliance of the American Cancer Society,
the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Women's
Basketball Coaches Association. Fans pledge a specific dollar
amount for each 3-pointer their favorite team sinks during the
season. The majority of funds stay in the local communities,
and a portion is used for national research and cancer control
programs.
"We're putting our competitive spirit to work in the fight
against cancer by taking a lead position with Coaches vs. Cancer
in this vital work," said John E. Stuart, IKON's chairman and
chief executive officer. "This year we've seen our original
sponsorship money nearly doubled with the IKON 3 Point Attack
fundraising program".
In 1996 IKON Office Solutions committed $2 million to a
multi-year sponsorship agreement, endorsing the IKON 3 Point
Attack as its major national community investment initiative.
The company, which has locations in all 50 states, is committed
to supporting the cities where its employees, customers and
business partners live and work. Every IKON marketplace has an
opportunity to partner with a local American Cancer Society unit
and a men's and/or women's basketball coach. By providing
marketing and publicity support, IKON has helped triple Coaches
vs. Cancer's income since 1996. Growing community awareness of
ACS' prevention education and patient services programs has also
been a major impact of the IKON 3 Point Attack.
An additional $100,000 was raised for the American Cancer
Society this year through IKON's sponsorship of the Coaches vs.
Cancer IKON Classic, an annual two-day tournament which tips-off
the men's basketball season. Next year's Classic will bring
four of college basketball's best teams together November 10 -
11 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
