Six more sign with WNBA

NEW YORK, April 6 (UPI) - Alicia Thompson, the All-America guard from
Texas Tech who was this season's Big 12 Player of the Year, heads a list
of six players that have signed today (Monday) to play in the WNBA
during the 1998 campaign.

Also signing were Utah's backcourt combination of Julie Krommenhoek
and Alli Bills, DePaul forward Mfon Udoka, Iowa guard Nadine Domond and
University of Maryland guard Sonia Chase.

Thompson was a member of the Big 12 First Team and the conference's
leading scorer the past two seasons. This year, she averaged 23.2 points
and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Thompson scored a career-best 47 points on January 7, 1997, tying
Houston Comets' guard and former Lady Red Raiders' All-American Sheryl
Swoopes for the third-highest total in school history.

Thompson is second in Texas Tech history in both points (2,156) and
rebounding (953).

Krommenhoek is the WAC's all-time leading scorer with 2,087 points.
Both she and Bills were first team All-WAC members this year.

Udoka, named to the first team in Conference USA this season, was the
nation's second-leading rebounder in 1996-97 with 12.1 per game.

Domond holds the Iowa record for career three-pointers and Chase was
Maryland's second-leading scorer this season.

The recent signees are expected to participate in a pre-draft camp in
Chicago April 16-18 before the WNBA draft on April 29.
