The Chicago Bulls got 40 points from Michael Jordan to race past the
Houston Rockets, 109-94, for their 12th straight win.
Chicago is about to clinch another Central Division championship. The
Rockets have lost six games in a row.
Forward Scottie Pippen of the Bulls has popped off again about
leaving the team next season. He told radio station WMVP in Chicago he
thinks it is time to play elsewhere. Pippen is looking to make around
$10 million a year and is a free agent after this season.
Other winners were the Los Angeles Lakers, Washington, Cleveland,
Minnesota, Indiana, Philadelphia, Utah, Seattle, Boston, and,
Sacramento.

Andy Benes pitched seven strong innings to help the Arizona
Diamondbacks win their first game, 3-2, over the San Francisco Giants.
Other winners in the NL were Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Milwaukee,
New York, San Diego, Chicago, and, Houston.
AL victories went to New York, Boston, Cleveland, Baltimore, Tampa
Bay, Texas, and, Minnesota.

Former centerfielder Kirby Puckett of the Minnesota Twins is
hospitalized after suffering cuts to his head and an arm in a one-
vehicle traffic accident north of Minneapolis.
Police say Puckett's vehicle rolled over on Interstate 35-W near
Mounds View yesterday afternoon. He was heading home from fishing with
his father-in-law, who was not hurt. Puckett's opthalmologist claims his
patient can see well enough to drive.
Puckett was forced to retire in 1996 when an early form of glaucoma
left him blind in his right eye.

Damian Rhodes of the Ottawa Senators blanked the Buffalo Sabres, 1-0,
as Ottawa moved four points ahead of Carolina for the last playoff spot
in the East. Also winning were the New York Rangers, New Jersey, and,
Florida. Anaheim tied Calgary, 3-3.

Quarterback Steve Bono was traded to the St. Louis Rams from the
Green Bay Packers for a late-round pick in next year's NFL Draft. Bono
backed up MVP Brett Favre last season. Now, he will fight journeyman
Will Furrer for the same role with the Rams.
Mark Rypien, who played last season behind Tony Banks in St. Louis,
signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons.

Starting quarterback Dan Kendra of Florida State may be lost for the
1998 season. Kendra tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right
knee during an intra-squad scrimmage Saturday.
