Cincinnati Reds rookie first-baseman Sean Casey will undergo surgery
Wednesday to repair an injury to his left eye socket. Casey suffered the
injury in a freak accident during fielding drills before a game last
week.
A broken bone around his eye is pressing on a muscle, causing Casey
to experience double-vision. Team doctors said Sunday he should not miss
more than three to six weeks of action.
Former Minnesota Twins' All-Star Kirby Puckett was released from a
hospital in Edina, Minn. today, after being kept for overnight
observation after suffering minor injuries in a one-car automobile
accident on Sunday.
Puckett sustained lacerations on his arm and head in the accident,
while his father-in-law, the lone passenger in the car, was not hurt.
Puckett currently is an executive with the Twins.
There are five day games in Major League Baseball today. In the
American League, Texas plays in Chicago.
In the National League, the Marlins try to snap their 5-game losing
streak at home versus Milwaukee. The Cubs try to add to their 5-game
winning streak when they welcome Montreal to the friendly confines. The
Mets entertain Pittsburgh, and Colorado plays in Houston.

Alicia Thompson, an All-America guard from Texas Tech and this
season's Big 12 Player of the Year, heads a list of six players that
have signed today to play in the WNBA this season.
Also signing were Utah's Julie Krommenhoek and Alli Bills, DePaul
forward Mfon Udoka, Iowa guard Nadine Domond and University of Maryland
guard Sonia Chase. All recent signees are expected to atend a pre-draft
camp in Chicago April 16-18 before the WNBA draft on April 29.
