BEIJING, April 6 (UPI) - China will increase medical and health care
aid to needy allies as part of a program to cultivate good will and
boost ties with the developing world.
The Ministry of Health says it will reform and upgrade China's 35-
year-old medical exchange program to better serve the needs of target
nations.
A ministry official in charge of sending teams overseas adds Beijing
is already preparing to send 16 doctors and hospital management
personnel to a Nepal hospital specializing in treating tumors.
The 100-bed hospital was built with donations from the Chinese
government.
Other medical personnel will be dispatched to Madagascar, which has
received 11 Chinese medical teams since 1975.
China sent its first medical team to Algeria in 1963 and has since
posted more than 16,000 medical personnel to more than 60 nations.
Most aid workers are sent to developing African and South Asian
countries.
