Victim's family: DA wanted to drop case

LOS ANGELES, April 8 (UPI) - The mother of a slain woman claims she
received a call from a deputy Los Angeles district attorney who wanted
to sound them out on the possibility of not filing charges against
alleged serial killer Glen Rogers.

Sandra Gallagher was strangled three years ago. Her body was left in
a truck that was set on fire outside of her apartment in Van Nuys.

The man police believe killed her is already on death row for another
slaying in Florida, and that's why Jan and Wes Baxter say they were
asked to give their backing to a bid to derail the prosecution of Rogers
in California.

The Baxters told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published
today that they are steadfastly against such a move; that they don't
believe justice will be done until Rogers is tried in California for
their daughter's slaying.

Veteran Deputy District Attorney Pat Dixon, who has been on the case
since last summer, insists the case is on track for prosecution in Los
Angeles. He also said it is not true that he suggested to Jan Baxter
that it was no longer necessary to try Rogers in California.
