So it looks like we're getting back into the swing of things this year
with News21.
Not sure which of you are still interested in our adventures but we've
got to get stuff cooking if we want to get something out of it. We
need a direction, an approach, possibly even a concrete goal!
My background as programmer in this group has me thinking about
redesigns and rewrites and more thinking. I'm slowly coming to the
conclusion that our current site structure is broken. We don't need
the extra hierarchy and we need to have one link to get people into
the meat and potatoes (i.e. multimedia pieces). We're going to try to
have less stories and put more energy into projects. So this site is
slowly becoming a project repository, or project gallery, whether it
likes it or not. I'd like to customize it for this purpose more.
So we're trying to get multimedia people; those spending all day in
the labs to get stuff out and online in an organized fashion. Most of
this "stuff" is self contained story packages or shells. I'm
beginning to just think of it as a zip file that can be uploaded and
processed. A few will need custom database work, most of them just
use flash, giving people the experience. Let's describe those
patterns.
So if you're in the editing room all day and when you need to fit your
project into your CMS and feel like it's a pain then please join this
topic, you are the wisdom. So we can jointly develop some code and
ideas that address some of these problems and make it more fun to do
your job.
