If one wishes to filter articles from Google Groups, and if one is
using the Firefox browser, one may visit
http://www.penney.org/ggkiller.html and download the Google Groups
KillFile Java script (this also requires the GreaseMonkey Firefox
extension).
I have written my own Google Groups web browser which incorporates a
killfile / twit filter. The Visual BASIC 6.0 source code and the
application is available at http://holysmoke.org/ggf/index.htm
Future versions of my Google Groups Filter browser will include
filtering on NNTP-posting-host and other article headers.
I am considering writing a IE BHO version of my Google Groups browser
so that one may use Internet Explorer, instead of my browser, to read
Google Groups with a killfile, but BHOs have a bad reputation because
assholes have used BHOs for criminal and abusive purposes (hijacking
browsers, logging key strokes, etc.). Since I also publish the source
code perhaps the BHO will be trusted.

This has the potential for becoming nice tool. Can you imagine the ironic
scenario where a Google Grouper kills all posts from Google Groups as to
make UseNetting a more pleasant experience? If an exception is made for
self, this might be ready for practical use. [sarcasm] I would take a
further step and suggest another excellent suggestion -- that which closes
the browser when a Grouper hits "Reply". *smile*

Like, for example, message-id contains "google"?

How does one compose a filter in KNode, which kills all crossposted
garbage? I can recall such discussions in the KDE group. I suspect it
wasn't possible at the time. Another filter that was lacked is that which
matches custom-made post header. This was raised when the Mandrake and
(one among) the Linux newsgroup(s) got hit by a huge flood.
comp.os.linux.misc was hit by another flood not so long ago. Any
suggestions?
Many thanks and best wishes to all,
Roy

That is the default. If the program is launched while someone is not
attached to the internet, one does not want to have the program try to
navigate to a server. If you want the program to navigate to Google
Groups on launch, you may tyell it so via the options list.
I also fixed the problem with minimizing the program window--- and I
have updated the GGF.EXE file at http://holysmoke.org/ggf/index.htm
with that fix.
Why "about blank"? What the hell is going on with that program?

As far as all of my test have show it works very well. Perhaps you are
doing something wrong.
> My killfiles this far
Generally speaking, posting who is in your killfile tends to defeat it's
usefulness: Lower forms of network life have this obnoxious tendency to
morph once they know they're killfiled by someone.

Notice: I have changed the options list so that one may select from
three different "views" for articles that have been ignored: option one
places "*Filtered*" where the article used to be; option two places the
filtering criteria (the article's author's name (usually fake when
dealing with the Scientology mob); option three is a blank line.
Source code is at http:/holysmoke.org/ggf/ggf.zip if one is worried
about downloading the EXE file.
Someone wrote that the window is too small. Is the MAX button and/or
the resize grab bars not working? They work fine on my computer.
A IE BHO version will be done in a few days so that one may use
Internet Explorer and filter Google Groups.
Thanks for your patience.

Wondering if this can be used with WebTV. Many ppl can't filter
because WebTV doesn't support newsreaders. Don't know how that
works, but as it is they're stuck.

I didn't know that. I am new to using these groups and the only other
groups I had experience with were Yahoo Groups.

Nah, I am free. I am not here to process anyone for 'carbon freezing'
to release more 'thetans' around volcanic outlets on some other distant
planet orbiting a G-type star. That was all a hoax to make money to
fund interplanetary terrorism. Read my initial post here The followers

Basically, I am just a parody of the cult's big boogeyman and I am
setting him up as a character being used much like Satan in the
Judaeo-Christian religion. Ever read Paradise Lost by Milton? Someone
to be pitied as a scapegoat for the evil motivations of others.
Mainly, I am just here to help pop their soap-bubble fantasies and
deconstruct their cultist propaganda. Read through my posts. You may
get a laugh or two out of them, if nothing else! Hehe!
I chose the 'Xenu' moniker also as a way to get coughed up in search
results here at Google Groups. Each of my posts (with the exception of
a small handful) contain links to places like http://www.xenu.net/
where people can find out the facts about the cult of $cientology.
