How do I setup Slrn to display the date field in the article reader?
I looked through some documentation and could not find this answer.

Thanks,
Tom

The configuration command "visible_headers" could be the solution.

<https://slrn.info/docs/slrn-manual-5.html#ss5.3>, at the end.

In "~/.slrnrc":

visible_headers "From:,Subject:,Newsgroups:,Date:,Followup-To:,Reply-To:"

Thanks,
This worked as you stated.

Fine!

BTW: The right hand side of your Message-IDs ("@bbs.lan")
seems not to be correct for me.

Is that intentional?

One possibility would be to suppress the generation of the
Message-ID:

set generate_message_id 0

or another would be to set a correct FQDN (if you possess
one, or if you want to score answers to your postings):

posting_host "your.fully.qualified.domainname"

Does this look better? I made the change you requested.
I am on a home based cable connection so don't have a stable fqdn to
use.

Looks good! (The Message-IDs are now generated by your
news server.)

I have two more recommendations:

1. The "Reply-To:" header line is in your case unnecessary
because it contains the same address as in your "From:".

You can try to delete the line

set replyto "..."

in your ~/.slrnrc file and see what happens. The "Reply-To:"
header line should disappear in your future postings.

See also <https://slrn.info/docs/slrn-manual-6.html#ss6.87>.

2. You can add the line

strip_was_regexp " ?(was:.*)$"

in your ~/.srlnrc file in order to automatically delete
the " (was: old subject)" part when the subject changes.

See also <https://slrn.info/docs/slrn-manual-5.html#ss5.3>,
there search for "strip_was_regexp".
