Tbird has SSL, you can get configurable skins with optional colors, and
just about everything has a keyboard equivalent.
I don't think you are going to have any problems with SSL and keyboard
equivalents, but I don't know whether many will have the options of
skins and colors.

1. I hear the new Cone has SSL support built in and is console based.
2. I use Evolution and like it (X based)
3. SLRN (also console based) is hugely configurable and works well with SSL,
which has to be installed and configured seperately (many helpful sites
guide you through it, like this one:
