You can search for newsgroups by topic at http://www.dejanew.com

In Netscape you can get a list of all the newsgroups that your news
server carries by clicking on "Options/Show New Newsgroups" (and waiting
for the list to be downloaded) then by clicking on "Options/Show All
Newsgroups"

(Very few news servers will carry _all_ the 20,000 or more newsgroups
that exist.)
