Some enhanced parallel ports support daisy-chaining of devices. It might
be profitable to visit the web site of your i/o card's manufacturer.
Generally, it is not good practice to use a mechanical switch in a laser
printer configuration. The electronic switches specifically designed for
laser printer support are safe.
I have two extended ports on my Pentium system: one for a color DeskJet
and the other for my laser printer. My digital camera shares serial port
Com2 with my external fax modem, via a mechanical switch--there is no
problem with this.
I hope this information will give you some perspective.

In the CMOS setup (upon turning computer on and pressing DEL)
there is an option to configure the parallel port.
In this option one can select SPP, EPP, ECP, ECPEPP, with
sub-selections 1.7, 1.9 (e.g. ECPEPP1.7). Moreover there is
an option to assign an address to IRQ7 (378) or IRQ5 (278).

I have a B&W video-camera (Connectix) and an HP laser printer
which I would like to plug in (alternatively) to the Parallel
port.

Which configuration should I choose? What do these codes
(e.g. ECPEPP) mean? The mother board manual explains nothing.

Can you help?
Thanks

You would be more likely to get help with this if you asked in a PC
hardware (or possibly Windows 95) newsgroup.
