My local site has a read only gateway that receives USENET.

The feed is a quite erratic, holds only 1 weeks msgs and,
in addition, it deletes my own postings to a conference so
that I can't always be sure that my external mail has
arrived at the conference (assuming that no other conf user
has responded with a paste of some of my text). Extremely
useful that! :-(

No one at my local site has information on how to post to
all the major groups. Here is a list:

uk.* don't know the local route, this is daft!
eunet.* euro gateway somewhere?

alt.* assume these groups onwards are all US based?
bionet.*
bit.*
biz.*
comp.*
ddn.*
gnu.*
mail.*
misc.*
news.* ucbvax.berkeley.edu (I hope)
pubnet.*
rec.*
sci.*
soc.* ucbvax.berkeley.edu
talk.*
trial.*
u3b.*
unix-pc.*
vmsnet.*

At the moment I am posting via ucbvax.berkeley.edu but that
doesn't seem to work every time. The format from my site
is:

confgroup-sub1-sub2...@ucbvax.berkeley.edu

as ukc knows about domain .edu

Does anyone know how I could source info on mailing to
these conference groups?

This seems a good place to post, having read some of the
questions, and I hope it arrives. I have no way of knowing
unless someone does private email or copies some of my
text!

This is a weird way to communicate...

Thanks for any help on this.

Your message was posted to this newsgroup. There, I hope you feel better
:-).

Ucbvax.berkeley.edu supports more than just news and soc. I have done some
sporadic testing, and I've found that it also appears to support at least
portions of alt, biz, bionet, comp, ddn, gnu, misc, rec, sci, talk, trial, and
unix-pc. It may support others, but those are the ones for which a quick
check found at least one supported newsgroup.

In general, it seems reasonable that you should just mail your message to
ucbvax, and if it doesn't bounce it was probably posted.

In any case, something seems very strange at your site. Do you mean to tell
me that the news software looks for incoming messages written by you in the
newsgroup and deletes them? For God's sake, why?
