How to send IMs

I'm new to the NET and don't really know what I'm doing. I want to know
how I can send IMs to AOL while I am on another service??? Also, how do
I get into chat rooms...and into the rooms of various subjects???

As a "newbie" to this world, there are a few places you'll want to
visit.

Click on your "Help" icon at the top of your screen, then click
on "Handbook" and view the tutorials from this selection.

Click on http://www.leapday.demon.nl/Introduc.htm which is a
"Beginner's Guide to Internet." This is a good site.

Click on http://www.newbie-u.com which is the "Newbie-U, New
User University," where their motto is "Helping Newbies Become Knowbies
-- Online!" This is another outstanding site.

Click on http://home.earthlink.net/~goff820/guide.html which is
an internet friend's attempt to help the newbie.

Have patience. Between these sources, you should get a good start in
the right direction.

As far as I know, you can't...Instant Messages are an AOL feature; if
you aren't on AOL then you can't access that feature.

AOL has just recently made their IM program available to everyone with,
of course, a button to try AOL.

Hi. This is my first posting of a reply and I hope I am doing this
correctly. In reply to this question. YES! you can use im while on
another internet service besides aol, but you must go to www.aol.com and
download in order to be able to use the aol buddy list. I have it and
use it on prodigy, earthlink.net and enter.net. Goodluck any questions

You can indeed get/send IMs from AOL. I believe that you need to have
an aol user or someone else with the IM service ask to have you signed
up. I could send you that information. If you want it, please Email
me.

Many people have emailed me with this correction to my post and a few
have also mentioned ICQ as a similar product that some prefer. I'm glad
to know I was mistaken, since my sister is on AOL. :-)
