Articles are stored on the hard disks of each site which takes the group.
All these posts take up a lot of space so the news administrator at each
site decides how long he wants to keep the posts. At my site most articles
are kept a week, although the alt.binaries.* groups are only kept a
day.

There is an Expires heading which you can set to override this--assuming
the various site administrators honor this. This is why FAQs are available
for a longer period.

I've posted articles in several groups and before all the responses are
in, the articl shows that it has been expired. What causes that. I
understand the need for articles to expire eventually.

Is there a setting that makes the article stay posted longer or shorter?

Thanks in advance...
