I agree with this new group being created. I will mirror it in my web
archive where I have already added the groups 'comp.lang.go' and
'comp.lang.rust'. I have copied the RFD to my archive. See these links:

I am in support.

I also want to bring up the point that the prevailing philosophy seems
to be that the support should come first, then the room. I think this is
a fine philosophy, but I wanted to bring up that sometimes people don't
participate because they do a search for their "thing" (e.g. go), don't
find it, and don't know where else to post.

It can be helpful to have a beacon.

+1. I would likely subscribe to such a group, although I don't really know
enough about Go to contribute.

That's true. In this case 'Go' is a somewhat unhelpful term to search for
(hence it's variously called 'golang') but I think comp.lang.go is the right
name.

> It can be helpful to have a beacon.

Judging by the groups created in recent years that I've subscribed to, they
all have decent levels of traffic, mostly on-topic, although the quality of
the traffic can vary. So it seems like 'build it and they will come' works
to some degree, at Usenet's current level of usage anyway.

Groups for topics which are big outside Usenet do seem to pick up some
legitimate traffic just by existing, at least enough to validate the
effort in creating them IMHO.

The response to the RFD (at least in this thread) has been uniformly
positive, though it has so far attracted only three responses. I note
that there has been some ancillary discussion of the proposed group in
the previous, pre-RFD thread at <news:t20mgj$tjt$1...@dont-email.me>.

In light of the newsgroup creation guide at
<https://www.big-8.org/wiki/How_to_Create_a_New_Big-8_Newsgroup> and the
FAQ at <https://www.big-8.org/wiki/Newsgroup_Creation_FAQ>, the
proponent may wish to consider what steps to take next. Some options:

1. Renew efforts to publicize this ongoing RFD in hopes of attracting
further participants.

2. Issue a second RFD here, with revisions arising from the discussions
up until now, and make an effort to publicize it.

3. Ask the Board if they agree that it is time to end the discussion,
and if so, submit a final RFD to the Board so that they can issue a
final call for comments before their vote.

4. Formally withdraw the RFD.

If the proponent takes no action, the Board may eventually consider the
RFD to be abandoned, in which case it will be ignored or rejected.

Regards,
Tristan

I do not know if others think is ready or not, but we can do a second
revision if people think there should be any changes but if no changes,
we could do a final one?

I saw at least 5-6 positive reactions, of people that will read or agree
with the creation of it at some point.
Def I do not want to abandon it :)

+1. Count me in, I would gladly subscribe and contribute to the group. I
haven't coded much in it lately, but if this proposal is accepted I will
share my experiences while exploring it again.

So far I don't like Go, but maybe c.l.go can change that. So I'm
planning to at least read c.l.go for a while.

That depends on whether the discussions have given you reason to want to
update the content of the RfD. If so, then yes, feel free to issue a
second RfD incorporating the necessary revisions.

If, on the other hand, you see no need to revise the content of the RfD,
then you can e-mail the Big-8 Management Board to ask them to issue a
final call for comments, after which the Board will vote on the RfD.

Thanks Tristan,
I really did not hear any complain regarthing the original RFD, other
than maybe Changing Go to go or viceversa.

I guess the email address is on the big-8 website right? I will take a
look this weekend and send it.

Thanks, let me know if there is anything else I should take in
consideration.

In favour.

Yes! A Golang group would be great. I just joined usenet last night and
Go was one of the first language groups I checked for since its my go-to
language.

I'm new to usenet but if there is a way to help get this group started
or if I need to vote somewhere or something let me know.

I'd change that to:

- The Go programming language (Golang)

for easier finding (by its traditional name).

Otherwise, users searching just for "go" in list of hundreds of thousands of newsgroups would probably grow frustrated
pretty quick.

Is possible if they use a generic search engine but if they look for
comp.lang.* not many groups if none starts with go* so not sure why this
will be hard to find. Just wondering.

We're still waiting for your final confirmation on the wording of the

it, let me know here.
