Intro
-----
This is a list of mailing lists available primarily through the
Internet and the UUCP network. A mailing list is different from a
newsgroup because you do not receive anything unless you specifically
request it. To be added to a mailing list, please mail a note to the
contact for that list, listed below.

Some of the lists mentioned may be available as limited-distribution
newsgroups. Contact the administrator for exact details.

Please note the following caveats: publication of a list here does not
guarantee that you will be allowed to join as a member. That is up to
the moderator and readers, and they have the right to restrict access
to their list as they see fit. Mailing lists use MUCH less system
overhead on a world-wide basis but do tend to increase loading on the
moderators' machines so the number of people that can be added to a list
may be limited by machine resources as well.

In your request to join a list, please include a signature or some
other copy of your mailing address. DO NOT RELY on your "From:" mail
header arriving unmangled or even vaguely representing what you think
your preferred address is.

If you have a list that you want added to this posting, send a request
to ari...@taronga.com.

amend2-discuss
amend2-info
Contact: Majo...@cs.colorado.edu

Purpose: Colorado voted in an amendment to their state
constitution which revokes any existing gay/lesbian/bisexual
civil rights legislation and prohibits the drafting of any
new legislation. The amendment was spearheaded by a right-
wing organization inappropriately self-named Colorado Family
Values (CFV). It is our understanding that they have no
intention of stopping their hate campaign here; they intended
to push for legislation with a stronger discriminatory flavor
here in Colorado and surrounding states.

Two mail/news groups have been created in response to this
discriminatory amendment.

amend2-discuss is for people who are discussing the
implications and issues surrounding the passing of amendment 2.

amend2-info is a moderated mailing list for people interested
in information on the implication and issues of #2.

Sending mail to either mailing list has the effect of also
posting the message to the corresponding shadow newsgroup.
We encourage people to use the mailing list address when
disseminating information so that those people who are on the
mailing list but who do not have access to news can benefit
from the discussion/information.

To subscribe to either list, send mail to:

subscribe <listname>

extensive, which may lead to a reduction in our ability to keep
abreast of new data and changes in theories. Sometimes,
conversation helps to clarify articles, illuminate new perceptions

of efficient communication network using this mailing list.

Browns, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the teams from The Ohio
State University. Topics of discussion have included local high

cogneuro
Contact: cogneuro...@ptolemy.arc.nasa.gov

Purpose: This list is an informal, relatively low-volume way
to discuss matters at the interface of cognitive science and
neuroscience.

The discussion will be scientific and academic, covering biological
aspects of behavior and cognitive issues in neuroscience. Also
discussable are curricula, graduate programs, and jobs in the field.

HOW TO USE THE LIST

Please follow these examples exactly, so that my software works.

To SUBSCRIBE, send mail like this:

To: cogneuro...@ptolemy.arc.nasa.gov
Subject: cogneuro: subscribe

To UNSUBSCRIBE, send mail like this:

To: cogneuro...@ptolemy.arc.nasa.gov
Subject: cogneuro: unsubscribe

You don't need to put anything in the body of the message. There
will be no automatic confirmation, but you might get a note from me.

To CHANGE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS (also very polite to do if you know
that your MACHINE WILL GO DOWN for a while, or in case you LEAVE
THE NET) simply unsubscribe from your old address and resubscribe
from your new address. This prevents error messages and prevents
me from having to verify your address manually.

To POST (send a message to everybody on the list), send mail to
cogn...@ptolemy.arc.nasa.gov, or followup to an existing message.

e.g.
To: cogn...@ptolemy.arc.nasa.gov
Subject: corpus callsosum

To ask a METAQUESTION, send it to cogneuro...@ptolemy.arc.
nasa.gov. Suggestions for improving this announcement or the
list are welcome.

GUIDELINES

The language of the list is English.

The list is meant to be low in volume and high in s/n ratio.

Controversy and speculation are welcome, as are lack of
controversy and rigor. Since the emphasis is scientific and
academic, participants are expected to be extremely tolerant of
other participants' opinions and choice of words. Since cogneuro
is such a huge field, submission shsouldn't be too off-topic or
otherwise not essentially scientific or academic.

The list is initally open to anybody who is interested. Although
I don't expect ever to need to exercise it, I reserve the right
to remove anybody from the list if there are problems. I want to
keep a spirit of free exchange of cognitive neuroscience.

Other than this, the list is moderated and informal.

organizations, in most Western European countries.

We work for the strengthening of existing monarchies, the restoration

4. This list only exists as long as HP itself doesn't supply a list

List-Managers
Contact: Br...@GreatCircle.COM (Brent Chapman)

Purpose: There was a "Mailing Lists" workshop session at the
USENIX System Administration Conference (LISA VI) in Long Beach,
CA, on October 22, 1992. The participants in that workshop
expressed a desire for a mailing list for discussions of issues
related to managing Internet mailing lists, including (but not
limited to) software, methods, mechanisms, techniques, and
policies.

I've created the list as "List-M...@GreatCircle.COM".
That address is a direct mail relector: all messages sent to
that address are immediately forwarded to the list. There is a
digestified version of the list available as "List-Managers-
Dig...@GreatCircle.COM". The digestified version has exactly
the same messages as the direct version; the messages are
simply bundled into digests daily (or more frequently, if
traffic warrants). Both lists are unmoderated.

To join the List-Mangers mailing list, send the command

subscribe list-managers

in the body of a message to "Majo...@GreatCircle.COM". If
you want to subscribe something other than the account the
mail is coming from, such a a local redistribution list, then
append that address to the "subscribe" command; for example,
to subscribe "local-list-managers":

subscribe list-managers local-lis...@your.domain.net

To subscribe to the digestified version, substitute "list-
managers-digest" for "list-managers" in the examples above.

or which the contributors feels most comfortable with. Discussions
and submissions are primarily from contributors who inform subscribers
of events usually in their local areas, often further. Sources of
articles which some users extract documents from are wide and varied.

MAK-NEWS is run entirely by volunteers, and is reasonably well
connected with outside regular sources. Translations of articles
are also possible. The Macedonian Information Liason Service
(M.I.L.S.) in Brussels sends daily bulletins to MAK-NEWS from
Monday to Friday. We also have individual news bulletins arriving
from Skopje through a link which is fragile but lately holding
well and improving all the time.

applying. Distributions are generally on a daily basis at
irregular times (when contribution load is sufficient to send,
or relating to the urgency of the material to be sent), and

Beside the usual chatting, subjects of discussion could be student
related topics such as scholarships, summer schools, conferences,
and conditions of studying meteorology at a particular university.
There is also the option to ask the community for help in meteorology
related questions. There are freshman, as well as grad students,
that will be available to answer your questions in this field.

If there are enough people interested we could organize a kind
of project, too.

To come to know each other there is a short questionaire available.
Though no obligation exists to fill it out, it would be nice if all
new subscribers would at least answer the basic questions about their
name, address and university. New answered forms are posted to the
list; old ones are available on request.
