Notes:
This article covers the eight Usenet hierarchies of comp, humanities,
misc, news, rec, sci, soc and talk.
The STAT column indicates the moderated status of the group using
the active file flags of B News, C News and INN. "y" is unmoderated,
"m" is moderated.
The VOTE column is the YES:NO ratio announced in the RESULT article
posted here and to the groups in which the Call for Votes was posted.
The DATE column is in MMDD (Month Day) notation. A group creation
date of "ASAP" means the group will be created as soon as it is
possible to make the group work. It generally means that working
moderator addresses still need to be established for the group.
The INFO CONTACT is the address of the person who handled the
proposal.
Groups stay in these lists for one month past their change in status.
The descriptions are arranged chronologically rather than alphabetically
to make maintenance easier for me.
Full charters for Usenet groups are included in the group creation
messages which are sent by the moderator of news.announce.newgroups.
Control messages are scheduled for Monday through Thursday mornings to
help smooth the startup of a newsgroup among the many sites that no
longer do automatic newgroups and whose administrators don't get to
them manually over the weekend. Control messages are automatically
resent one week and one month from their first issuance for sites that
may have missed the originals.
Groups which have <unknown> for a moderator's address will have the
correct address listed in the group creation messages. Full addresses
are included in the group creation messages and in the List of Moderators.
Archives of news.announce.newgroups postings since roughly late 1989
can be found in:
