RATIONALE: rec.games.miniatures.marketplace
The existing newsgroups within the rec.games.miniatures.* hierarchy
frequently feature advertisements crossposted to all of them, and so these
sales-related posts are often only tangentally related to the subject
matter of some groups. The volume of marketing posts (a raw Google search
puts this at 600 per month for the rec.games.miniatures hierarchy),
particularly in relation to auction sites such as Ebay make it much harder
to concentrate on the discussions of miniatures and games covered in each
individual newsgroup's charter.
A marketplace newsgroup would be able to propogate sales posts to those
who are interested in such matters while simultaneously cleaning up a
number of threads and discussion in the other rec.games.minitures.*
groups.
CHARTER: rec.games.miniatures.marketplace
rec.games.miniatures.marketplace is an unmoderated newsgroup for the
advertisement and discussion of buying, selling, trading and auctioning
gaming miniatures and related merchandise/accessories. Information
relative to sales (price guides, good/bad trader lists, etc.) should be
posted solely to this group. Duplicate postings are expressly forbidden
(otherwise some companies will overwhelm the group with duplicate
postings).
Cross-posting among other groups in the rgm.* hierarchy is strongly
discouraged. If topic drift causes a thread in rgm.marketplace to be more
appropriate in one of the other rgm.* groups, a message may be
cross-posted with follow-ups set to the appropriate group.
Excessive, repetitive, and/or multiple copy posts from any individual or
organized group (either by accident or design) will not be tolerated.
Ads/posts that are materially the same should be posted at a frequency of
no more than once per week. (In the case of auction postings, "One week
remaining" and "last day" type posts are deemed sufficiently materially
different to be posted within one week of each other.)
Encrypted messages, HTML-encoded posts & completely off-topic discussions
will not be tolerated. Test posts (use alt.test) and spam (or other
off-topic commercial posts), are strongly discouraged.
Binary files should not be posted. Pictures of items being sold or
auctioned should be placed on websites, or an appropriate binaries
newsgroup, and its URL posted to rec.games.miniatures.marketplace. Do not
request that binary files be posted to rec.games.miniatures.marketplace,
since anyone fulfilling the request will be in violation of the charter.
