Thirteenth Annual Conference on European Fibre Optic
Communications and Networks
Brighton, England, June 27-30, 1995
Call for Papers
***************
When : 27 - 30 June 95
Where : Brighton, England
Abstract deadline : 16 December 94
Notification of acceptance: 10 February 95
Manuscript camera-ready : 31 March 95
EFOC&N is a unique conference in Europe combining the different
aspects of fibre optics communications and networks within a single
event. It provides a valuable forum for discussion of practical
aspects, recent advances and future trends in three main areas :
- Optical systems and system implementation
- Networks and network technology
- Fibre optic technology and components
Research scientists, development engineers and manufacturers
of systems or technology, will promote their latest results, prospects
and products. Users and planners of new systems and services will also
advice you of their latest requirements.

H i g h l i g h t s
EFOC&N will highlight two special themes in 1995:
1. Broadband Access to the Superhighway
New broadband services which depend upon state-of-the-art technology,
such as processors and video codecs, will drive investment in broadband
fibre optic networks. The next ten years will see rapid growth in fibre
optic systems with development of fibre-in-the-loop and realisation of
the superhighway by the public network operators. Also, cable operators
are considering more extensive use of fibre with optical amplifiers and
power dividers. The special theme will explore the impact of emerging
broadband services and technology, on fibre systems design and
deployment of the superhighway.
2. ATM Networks
Multi-media networks based on ATM LAN technology can provide integrated
transmission of voice data and visual informationdirect to the
workstation. Such networks are of strategic importance to organisations
which depend upon electronic transactions. The smooth operation of these
networks is therefore of critical importance. The aim of this special
theme is to investigate the state of corporate networks today and
provide a view of how emerging new technology, carefully deployed, can
improve communications efficiency.

Submission of Papers
Authors are invited to submit papers for presentation at this conference
on any of the topics outlined in this call for papers. Papers should be
original contributions, should state clearly the scope of the
contribution, and should concentrate on essential results.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Instructions for Abstract Submission
1. Abstracts must be submitted in English.
2. The title should be followed by a blank line. The names and
initials of all authors should be given, and the name of the
author presenting the communication should be underlined.
3. The text should describe clearly the work to be presented with a
minimum of introduction.
4. The text may be a shortened abstract (minimum 1 full A4 page) or
the full papers (4 A4 pages).
5. Send your abstract to EFOC&N'95 Secretariat c/o AKM
Clarastrasse 57, P.O.Box 6

Exhibition
An exhibition will be held at the same time of the conference. This will
show the latest technology, equipment and components. Companies
interested in exhibiting at the conference should contact the organizers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Short courses on Optical Communications and Networks
Full details of the short courses will be available in the final
programme. These short courses will be held June 26 and 27, 1995.
