I wouldn't peer with this guy, he's a spammy troll and seems to be the
only user on his server.
See, for example, Message-ID: <um04qr$1gfm$1...@gallifrey.nk.ca> where he
calls someone a pedophile out of the blue (for thinking Israel is bad),
or 100% of his posts in the Palestine thread in
or.politics,alt.support.schizophrenia,alt.society.liberalism,edm.general,sci.math
.

In fact, I reported him to his ISP, only to be told that he *is* his
ISP. Then I suggested maybe reporting him to his peer for de-peering,
and at this exact moment he goes looking for more peers.

As I said, I would strongly advise against peering with him.

That is, assuming you don't like trolls. If you want the network to
contain more trolls, I can't stop you from peering. The content coming
off his node is almost as bad as dizum.

The Doctor's ISP's AUP is that you shouldn't deliberately aim to offend
people, which The Doctor does all the time. It doesn't matter, though,
since The Doctor is apparently his own ISP.

People are only offended if they want to me. Choose not to be offended.

That is a risk that is taken with every new peer.

I have to trust that people will reach out to me if I'm carrying traffic
from a peer that is a problem. With that knowledge I then need to
decide what to do.

Thank you for your input.

Agreed.

I think that a troll can engage someone in conversation / debate, even
heated forms thereof, while being completely on topic and polite.

I view that as civil discourse which is in and of itself encouraged.

I will not block someone simply for disagreeing with their content.

Spaming and flooding are two very different things to me. Flooding is a
(significantly) disproportionate number of articles. Spam tends to be
off topic and / or trying to persuade someone to do something, often
purchase / trade something.

Sometimes something is given with the intention of it being taken
offensively.

Where is the trolling taking place, then? A troll's purpose is to
distract from on topic discussion. In your hypothetical, it's on topic.

Sn!pe is another user who frequently intends to offend.

There's an adage in "micro-politics" that every organization which is
not explicitly left-wing tends to become right-wing over time, as Nazis
are much more likely to co-opt power structures than normal people are
to remove Nazis from them. Something similar applies to trolls in
unmoderated spaces...

One thing I cannot understand is why provider offer something
that should not be there.

So you block the guy on your server and you're ready to block e-s (so
traffic from other, legitimate users as well) at the expense of your
users?

Wouldn't it be better to just use a personal killfile and let your users
decide for themselves?

Well said. I reserve my opinion on why some think it is different. The
truth is not very flattering to them.

If you really didn't care what they had to say, you wouldn't have sent this.

The internet will be better off, if the kinds of people who cut
themselves off from the internet just because of one user would actually
do so.

Google is widely blocked because it *only* contributes spam and
trolling, not because there's at least one troll on it. If there was
only one troll on Google, you'd just block that user.

I take this as an indication to blacklist anything that passed through
bofh.team.

Wouldn't it be better to just blacklist nk.ca if you wish so?

immibis and I are ~not~ the same person; I had not met him before our
recent encounter here in the news hierarchy groups. I am here ~only~
in my primary persona, namely Sn!pe. This article is my first in this
group since my well-meaning, grovelling, apology three days ago in:
Message-ID: <1qmhz5a.1om1ays1p23q5cN%snip...@gmail.com>

Your bullying bluster says a great deal about you, noel. I will make no
further comment. Of course you won't read this; now kill-file me and be
done with it. I will do likewise.

The biggest problem is that this genie didn't understand that I'm not
the only upstream one, so even if he filtered me he would still receive
the things, as they would probably pass through other peers closer to him xD

Stop crying. Stop whining. Just fuck off already. If you block all
articles originating at news.eternal-september.org and that ends all of
your drama queen antics, then Usenet will be better off for it.

But you'll never do it because you are here only to cry, whine, and
complain.

Your behavior is utterly immature.

Tick Tock indeed. You know, that saying came from clocks before it came
from zoomer social media apps.

I recommend you hurry up and block it ASAP so you'll have to stop
responding to us "dumb cunts". The network will be better for it.

It's one heuristic of many. "Hi, I'm a troll, please peer with me so I
can't get blocked as easily." "Yes, sounds like a good idea, please peer
with me." - why should I trust your peering decisions?

I'm so confused as to how you read my article considering that you are
blocking everything from news.eternal-september.org.
