Nice of you to give us a toll free phone number:
>To order, call us at 800.260.6283. We accept VISA, MasterCard,

Think of it! With VLSI we can pack 100 ENIACs in 1 sq. cm.!
That number does not go to soundcity. It goes to an MCI paging
service, which requires you to enter a PIN. I don't know why
they would do this in their ad, unless a) it's a typo, or b) they
were maliciously attacking MCI as a "parting gift".
Soundcity circulates ad's for a variety of companies. They just handle the advertising part of it, the
number they give is the number to order whatever is in the ad, so ofcourse it won't go to
the advertiser. Call 814-942-8777 and ask for Joe Dively. I talked to his secretary and gave her my e-mail adddress
and she said it would be removed from their list. So, they aren't attacking anyone, paraniod aren't we?

I can't think of a dumber action than attempting some kind of
"denial" of service to MCI.
Do you suppose MCIs' lawyers might know a thing or two about
communications law ?

It's a typo (apparently, it's not a "parting gift" to MCI as some have
suspected.
The correct phone number is 1-(800)-260-6293.
I know this to be true, because I've called it. I spoke with a very
pleasent marketing.clone, who stated that this was the first day her
answering service had been answering calls for netnet.
It sounds like they are not particularly associated with netnet; that
netnet contracted out the answering of these calls.
Therefore: PLEASE, everyone, be relatively polite to the people who
answer this 800 number. They're not bad people; they're working for
bad people. By all means, call up and express your displeasure. By
all means, stay on the phone with them for a while, waste their money,
raise their 800 number bill. Even call more than once, but *ONLY* if
you can come up with a legitimate reason for doing so (we *really*
don't want to be guilty of phone harassment, now do we?).
I got some interesting statistics from the woman who answered the
phone.
She said that she personally had only handled 8 or so calls today, but
that there were others at the office.
And (this is very good) she said that of the 8 or so calls, 2 were
irate and the remaining ones were "please take me off the email
mailing list".
Not one single order.
Not ONE!
If people keep calling it for a few more days, I wouldn't be surprised to
see netnet file Chapter 11.
*grin*
And I, for one, would shed not a single tear.
But once again, keep your calls polite, dignified, and non-harassing.
It's not the answering service's fault, and it'll let you stay on the
phone longer and cost them more money (it's much easier to drag out a
polite and friendly conversation for a long time than it is to drag
out an angry and violent one).
And besides, they're nice people, and have pleasant voices. Why get
ourselves all riled up, when we can have more fun, and cost them more
money, by staying calm?
*grin*
Here's to nice fun cheap long-distance calls,
Mickey.
This number is for an answering/order taking service, so if you call
it, _please_ be nice :-). I actually spoke with one of the supervisors
there for a good 10 minutes or so. We had a very pleasant conversation.
They are aware of the situation, and are considering what action to
take. I'm assuming that they may be under some sort of contractual
arrangement.

How ironic that the wrong number they gave (off by ONE digit) happened to
connect to one of the corporate arms of their own service provider!
Truth is stranger than fiction.
