| Hello, I am Steve from pwebtech.com. One of our IPs got listed in
| another companies spews listing, Im not sure how, but after
| investigating the IP, it seems like it is in error, or the domian was
| once hosted with one of our customers and has been deleted already.

This listing has been present since June 2004. You're just now getting
around to it?
You might want to check and see if there are any exploitable web forms on
that server (69.72.142.42). Lots of possible ways for spam to come from,
or spam information become hosted at, a given machine.

We were previous located in a datacenter for the ISP nac.net, wwho made
us change our IPs when we left to go to our own datacenter. The IP
listed did not get delegated to us until July 2004. This account may
have been hosted at the previous ISP to own the IPs. The client who's
server has this IP delegated to it has checked and found nothing on his
server in terms of scripts or sites of this nature.
Thanks for your response.

>Hello, this listing was not in our primary list of spews
>problems(listed in another ISPs list), which is why I never came
>across it until now. Im sorry.
You should have come across it long before the SPEWS listing. You need
to:
1. Ensure that every one of your whois records lists an appropriate
abuse address.
2. Ensure that every abuse address, every listed contact address and
every mandatory role account is functional.
3. Ensure that everything sent to an abuse or postmaster address is
promptly read by a human being who will act decisively and
expeditiously on it.
4. Assume as a matter of course that complaints about a spam, trojan
worm or virus will contain the spam, trojan, worm or virus. If you
discard those complaints then you can expect to be considered
rogue. That's true whether the complaints include the original
messages inline or as attachments.
5. Your AUP should explicitly prohibit spam even if it does not
traverse your network.
6. Your TOS should provide for immediate termination and cleanup
fees, both in its wording and in its enforcement.
7. You should proactively look for spam by your customers. That
includes monitoring traffic and planting spamtraps.
Keep in mind that you (pwebtech) have a very bad reputation, so you
will need to work much harder to restore trust than you would have to
work to maintain it.

And expect that, in the vast majority of cases, nothing anyone can do (other
than dissolving the business and forming a new one with a new name, new IP
space, and new personnel) will restore the trust that was destroyed by
pwebtech's previous spam-support behavior.
