Both the .net and .org are currently pointin pointing to the .com.

Yes, the domains will expire in early March - but they're all paid for up until that point, and can't be canceled or refunded.

The earlier deadline I proposed is end of January - either someone needs to step forward to take over domain management for one (or all) of the domains - which means they move off my GoDaddy account so I can shut it down - or I need a clear directive from the group to let the domains expire.

FYI - Namecheap has a deal now to handle transfers & one-year registration for 6.99 per domain.

Ed (and all) - one correction.

The .com and .net domain issue has nothing to do with GoDaddy/
Namecheap. They were both pointed to t.a's host, Dreamhost, when he
was working on a self-hosted Drupal site for this group. (While I'd
love to throw GoDaddy under a bus for this, I cannot in good
    conscience do so!)

I also disagree with Ed's suggestion to not point
oregonnewsincubator.org to the current WordPress installation. This
isn't costing ANYTHING further to anyone at this time - that money
was already paid for to WordPress a few months ago (thanks to Bill for
reimbursing me at the time to keep that in place - I do hope those in
the group who volunteered to chip in have already done so by now!)

Instead, I'd respectfully suggest that you get a strategy in place
before you start yanking anything down.

Don't the domains expire in March and need money to renew?

Interesting - I forget what I'm paying at DomainDiscover but it's a
boatload more that 6.99. Let me see what's involved in moving mine
over to Namecheap.

Did the GoDaddy stall get resolved?

I'm thinking this is an excellent prompt for another business meeting, with a big item on the agenda being how we want to organize and administer ONI's online presence.

We've been fading for a good while now. Do we want to reinvigorate ONI with new goals and action plans? Do we want to just maintain the status quo? Do we just want to say, "Good effort" and send ONI off into that good night?

One thing we might try is having "offices" other than just leader/president. Other positions might include someone who will be in charge of the website/blog, for instance, and another who is in charge of social media and networking.

So who's up for a business meeting? We've not had one of those in a good while.

I'd be up for a meeting, Jen.

Personally, I also agree with Betsy (good to agree on a strategy) and with Ed (unless things are about to change, we aren't getting much out of having the extra domains).

I don't think ONI has taken root. I've been part of that, by (for example) committing to updating the site weekly and not following through. In general, though, we're just a busy group of folks who tried to do an interesting but difficult thing without any experience managing or growing an enterprise like this.

I think the simplest course of action here is to keep the free Wordpress blog, pay one of our members $17 a year for the .org URL as an incentive to keep in touch, and let .com and .net expire. This lets us resurrect ONI as the situation demands. That's what I'd plan to argue at an in-person meeting.

Thanks again for helping nurture and support this, Betsy.

I'm up for it. Some place central and quiet, of course. Afternoon? Evening?

I'll volunteer for Twitter, but not for Facebook or Google+, since I
don't have accounts there.

Mike's and Jen's sentiments more or less capture my own. I'd opt for a meeting sometime next week after Tuesday, or the week after. I don't want to be involved in setting the location, though I'd prefer not to go over the hills (or through the woods, or to grandmother's house), past 82nd, south of powell or north of the Columbia.

I'd prefer a late afternoon or early evening.

Late afternoon or early evening ... somewhere in the 3 - 6 range,
then. Wednesday. Inner east side for the bicyclists. If we get there
early enough, Produce Row should be quiet. I don't remember the TriMet
accessibility of Produce Row, though.

I'd prefer earlier - 3 - 4 if at all possible.

For what it's worth, I always prefer downtown to Inner East, because the transit is so much better. I could do 3 p.m. next Wednesday.

Yeah - Floyd's Old Town, maybe? We had the last one there and it's
right on the MAX.

i don't trust that Produce row will be quiet enough, so I'd prefer floyd's. Or backspace (I know, not terribly quiet either, but it's another option). Floyd's works better because it's more central.

I've never found it quiet in Backspace - I'm for Floyd's if those are
the two options. ;-)

Works for me. It's on my calendar for now. Happy to change it though if it doesn't work for others.
