I'm painting faces at a little girl's party. It has a Wizard of Oz
theme. Any ideas on Dorothy things I could paint on them? Any good
full face ideas?

Jane, Go to http://thewizardofoz.warnerbros.com/index.html and click on the City
of Oz portion of the page, then Photo Gallery for a lot of various images that
might be helpful.

As for Dorothy, about the only thing you can "paint" to make them look like
Dorothy would be freckles. Otherwise, the Dorothy things are her pigtails, her
dress and the ruby slippers.

But there are numerous other characters that would work well for face painting:
the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow, Wicked Witch, Munchkins. You'll find photos of all
of them on the Web site above.

For something simple, you could paint poppies on their cheeks (the field of
poppies).

Hope this helps. Let me know how the party turns out and what kinds of things
they did for the theme. I'd like to pass it on to my nephew. His little girl is
really into Dorothy and the whole Wizard of Oz thing. He might want to consider
doing something similar for her birthday in August.

I could not for shit remember what flower that was. I do a flower that
will fit in well with the poppy theme. Also figured I could do a
yellowbrick rode, ruby slippers, courage badge, heart,

Thanks for the link. I'll look at it to refresh myself.

Sorry, it's a generational thing. Sodium seconal had a street name of
yellow jackets in the 60s. Dorothy, a/k/a Judy Garlin, was a pill
head. Sorry, long way for not much.

I love them. I also like Spyro Gyra. They are more or less in the same
category. Great stuff when i am in the mood for jazz which occurs more often
nowadays.

No kidding. I have most, if not all, of Spyro Gyra's releases. They
were more interesting in the early years: less fusion and more
straight-ahead jazz. Their first 4 albums, Spyro Gyra, Morning Dance,
Catching the Sun and Carnaval were truly remarkable. Outstanding
ballads. Their soprano player, Jay Beckenstein, is very, very good.
Jeremy Wall, who wrote most of their good early charts, also filled in
on tenor back then. Caught them on tour in the early eighties.

I forgot all about those names. Yellow Jackets, Christmas trees,
spececkled eggs....my favorites were quaaludes and placydils (just LOVED
that aftertaste). Those were the days. I remember one or two of them

A small world it is indeed. I agree that thir erlier stuff is better. More
roots solid. I suppose they have to do something to keep the cash flow
coming though. Maybe thats why they go in for fusion a bit more. It will
sell better. I bet they play straight ahead jazz more at concerts though.

Rainbows....duhhhhh!
Of course. There are so many designs I already do that can be
Dorothy-ized. The eye flower can be a poppy.

Never!!!
I was fortunate to be loved and nurtured by several black women, when I
was a child. I may not want to sleep with black people, but I don't
hate them either.

White crosses were a mild form of speed. I never cared much for speed
and liked these because I could control the effects better.

Coltrane. Yes. I went to an accordion workshop lasr tear and we studied a
Coltrane piece for 3 days and played "Blue Train" on 12 accordions. Some
playing bass and others the melody and others again on the harmonies. It
allmost sounded like a big band except there were only accordions in it.
Diatonic accordions at that. I love Coltrane too.

Are your younguns taking XTC over there? We have had several deaths among
teenagers at house parties because they get dehydrated while dancing all
night long on XTC. Its a frightening drug. The most recent reports have
found that it actually changes your DNA structure. You can get misformed
children even after many years of taking it.

Toto was an ugly little soul. Everyone calls Sadie "Toto" til they know
her. She is much better looking though. I was going to let her hair
grow, but I just couldn't stand that shaggy face. So I finally trimmed
it back and now I can see her beautiful face.

Wait a minute, I just had a flashback to my grandmother complaining
about all that long hair on our faces in the sixties.

Yep, New Orleans has one of the highest concentrations of xtc use in the
United States. We've had teens die at rave parties downtown. In fact,
Charity Hospital prepares for innundation on nights of the big raves.
Poor nurses/docs really get swamped those nights.

It may have been the knowledge that I was a border-line mental case in
the first place (grin), but I've never taken a single drug of any kind
in my life that wasn't prescribed by a doctor. I wouldn't even take
some of those prescribed by a doctor if they made me feel odd.

I don't like the way alcohol makes me feel. I don't like the way weed

The Cairn Terrier is a Scottish dog but not to be mixed up with the Scottish
Terrier or West Highland White. A cairn is a pile of stones on top of
ancient Celtic burial grounds. The dogs are used to hunt badgers.
Which reminds me. I overheard a conversation between Ineke and a woman
friend. Ineke said that i was hung like a badger. I felt really proud untill
the other woman asked if that was any good. Ineke answered, " only if you
are a female badger". Oh well.

Interestingly, in the eighties, Ecstacy was sold as a natural substance
for $5 per hit. It was actually legal then. I know responsible folks
who occasionally do it and enjoy it. But kids should not be doing
drugs. Life is hard enough when you're a teenager. Drugs just
exascerbate the problem.
