An alternative: a couple of already blooming hanging flower baskets from Lowe's
or Home Depot or K Mart--it would come to about the same price and at least
no-one could weed-eat them!

LOL! Oops there goes another rubber tree plant. <g> I really want my
flowers on this side of the little gated area, like a little garden. I
figured I wouldn't have to invest as much time in planting and I could
still go water my little garden. (though I would put down new soil and
prepare the ground.

Elmer doesn't mess with my side anymore. His woman gave him hell when he
told her what he did. "You didn't hear me next door?" She'd been watching
me nurture those last rosemary plants for years. They were finally taking
off. Oh well...it was a thing, not a person.

Jane, I have recently planted a similar product again. I purchased an array of
perennial seeds mixed in a shredded cardboard paper-like substance. You spread
it on the garden area and water it twice a day for two weeks, then once a day
for the following week for the seeds to take root. Since Pennsylvania has had a
deluge of rainy weather, it may be too soon to tell if the seeds have run off
the ground of my planting garden.
I know that in previous years, the wind had blown quite a few of the
"Wildflower" seeds over to the other side of the driveway and we are still
mowing them down each time we work the lawn. It's refreshing to see the plants
mature and take root for the continuing summer seasons. However, most of the
seeds have not shown an abundance of flowering as indicated on the package.
YMMV with the mat-type since it has a product that holds the seeds in place
while rooting.

I'm wondering if, at planting, one could sprinkle additional seeds atop and
beneath it?

It wouldn't surprise me to see them take root by feathering the original mass.
The underside of the mat, much like a woven carpet, allows water penetration
and would "set" the seed for the surface. Some of the seed will not "take"
first time out, anyway. Watch for overcrowding the ground, however. There
will not be enough dirt to cling. Give it a go!

Well, the drought has caused all the flowers in the yard to become parched
sticks of seed. How has the weather in New Orleans caused for wear on your
gardens, folks? Since your deluge of rain two weekends ago, I suppose you
still have a variety of plants still sprouting new buds.

I wanna be in pictures...ones without red-eye distortion, if you please.

What are voodoo lilies? I've heard of them but I don;t get a mental picture.

My garden's doing OK--partially because much of it's tropical/native, partially
because there's a lot of humidity in the air and dew at night--that helps keep
things moist-ish.
I don't think I've watered the whole garden for a month, but I do
spot-water--go around with a gallon plastic jug and give a big drink to
anything that's looking droopy (mostly my 5 gerbera plants) or has been
recently planted or transplanted.
