Dear all,

The 9th annual New England Workshop on the Mechanics of Materials and Structures (NEW.Mech) will take place at Brown on Saturday, September 29, 2018. NEW.Mech is a one-day workshop that aims to bring together the New England Mechanics community with an interest in exploring new directions in the mechanics of materials and structures and share the latest advancements in the field. As in past years, the workshop is completely free of charge. We will be featuring invited and contributed talks, a poster session, a gallery of mechanics exhibition, and a post-workshop reception.

The invited speakers for NEW.Mech 2018 are

Simon Ostrach Professor, University of Rhode Island
Talk Title: Recent experiments on dynamic instabilities in underwater structures

William and Ami Kuan Danoff Professor of Applied Mechanics, Harvard University
Talk title: Soft robots: Where robotics meets mechanics

E. Paul Sorensen Professor of Engineering, Brown University
Talk Title: Isogeometric methods for extreme-event simulation: Air blast fluid-structure interaction - methodology and applications

Registration for NEW.Mech 2018 is open now. Please visit the NEW.Mech 2018 website for more information and to register. Anyone submitting a short talk, poster, or video must register and submit information by Thursday, September 20th. We will be making decisions on short talk, poster, and video submissions shortly thereafter, with instructions to follow for those whose are accepted. For everyone else, the general registration deadline is Wednesday, September 26th.

We hope to see all of you there!

Best regards,
