Dear Neighbors,

This week, there will be a public hearing on Tuesday, April 10 for the Jobs Pipeline Working Group at 6:30 pm in the Aldermanic Chamber of City Hall.  This is an opportunity to hear from anyone who would like to talk about how to help connect New Haven residents with New Haven jobs.  There seems to be a mis-match between the skill sets of of applicants and the needs of employers, and that means that growing jobs in New Haven does not always lead to growing jobs for people who live here.  Addressing unemployment in the City is a key part of addressing the growing disparities between neighborhoods which impacts crime, taxes, and school reform efforts, to name just a few areas of concern.  It would be great to have people in East Rock testify about their experiences as students, employees, employers, or activists.

I am working on compiling a list of sidewalk concerns and traffic issues.  If you have some of these concerns on your mind, please email them to me and include the address and as much information about the issue as possible.  It will take time to address them, but it is helpful for me to be able to log them and refer them to appropriate City agencies.  If there seems to be an interest, I can post them to my website, eastrocknewhaven.org.  

Friends of East Rock Park is having a work day on Saturday, April 14 from 10 am-1 pm.  FERP will be working with Ranger Dan to prune Norway Maples and taking care of other needs along the road that connects Livingston to Whitney Ave.  All necessary supplies will be provided!  It is a great way to spend time outside and to meet some neighbors.  FERP works with Dan the second Saturday of each month so please put May 12th on your calendars.  The group meets by College Woods to get started.
