NHSO UPDATE: Detectives Investigate Found Body in State Park

NEW HANOVER – On Thursday, just before 2:30 p.m., Deputies responded to the Carolina Beach State Park to investigate a found body.  Carolina Beach State Park personnel located the body in a wooded area just beyond designated camp sites while performing maintenance duties. 

 

The body is described as a 25-35-year old white male, approximately 6 feet 0 inches tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds.  The male was found wearing a red Nautica “hooded sweatshirt”, tan cargo pants, white socks and black Columbia sneakers with red trim.  A camouflage hat was found inside the front “hooded sweatshirt” pocket with the initials of “E.W.M.A.R.”  The male was also found wearing a gold/silver Seiko dress watch with a black face.

 

At this stage in the investigation, Detectives are unable to rule-out foul play and the cause of death remains unknown.  The body will be transported to Chapel Hill for an autopsy on Friday. 

 

Carolina Beach State Park, controlled by the NC Division of Parks & Recreation, is located at 1010 State Park Road and remains open to the public.
