Hi friends,

For those of you we met at the Farm Meet, here's a belated thanks for your interest in the Newberg-Dundee Food Co-op. I want to make this short so here's a brief summary of how things are moving forward. The most general and briefist summary is that we are in an information gathering stage and have listed 5 specific ways below.

1. The results of the Farm Meet survey, while not scientific in scope or size, were very encouraging that there is a strong core interest in having a Cooperative Grocery Store in our community.

2. Five us us took a field trip to 2 of the food co-ops in Portland, (Food Front and Alberta). We made contacts with some very friendly people and at least one has experience with starting a co-op. We asked many questions and came back with helpful information. It was also very helpful to see an actual store! (at least for me, I think the other 4 had been to a co-op before).

3.The other co-op in Portland, People's, is holding a 'Co-op 101' informational meeting tomorrow (Tuesday June 1) at 7:30. I have room for 5 more in my van if anyone is interested in going.

4. Wednesday June 2 is our next meeting of the core planning and organization group. We will have the chance to hear from a marketing professor from Fox about how a Fox class can help us with market research in the Fall semester.

5. There are hundreds of food co-ops and we do not have to "create the wheel". If interested check out some of the available resources:

CGIN--Cooperative Grocers' Information Network: www.cgin.coop
A manual for starting a food co-op www.cgin.coop/public/food-coop-info/start-a-food-coop
National Cooperative Grocers Association www.ncga.coop

Please pass this along to anyone you think may be interested. Look for another update some time in late June. And please let me know if you don't want to receive these email updates! Thanks.
