Rhema COG Community Worship Center is presently reaching and winning the souls of the youth and changing lives in our community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn and NYC at large, by supporting an effective Prayer Ministry.

I am a firm believer that Prayer changes things and that prayer works. At Rhema COG we have an all night prayer meeting immediately after our "True Fusion" youth services, on friday nights from 10 pm till 6 am in the morning. The Men's Ministry and the Woman's Ministry also schedule fellowship events with the young people.

I believe that prayer is a powerful key to reach our youths and win souls for Christ. This approach on prayer is discussed in Bob Tolliver's article on "The Key to Reaching A City". I concur with Tolliver's perspective on prayer that is strategic, targeted, authoritative, faith-filled and prevailing in spiritual unity.

In addition to prayer, it is vitally important that our attitudes, daily actions, lifestyles, and values are in line with the will of God. The youth read our lives and are impacted and influenced by how we think, what we say and do. They will follow us as we diligently seek His Presence; study and meditate upon His promises; desire to genuinely experience God; and totally surrender to Christ.

The Lord God promised that, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land." (2 chronicles 7:14)

That article was phenomenal and soul stirring. I must admit
that it made me feel a deep sense of conviction. It also has made
aware of areas in my personal life and in ministry where I need to
allow effective prayer to have its way. I agree with the author that
our churches have missed the mark on prayer in some cases and I have
faith that because the Lord has directed our state leadership to
expose us to such an impactful reminder as to what his real
intentions
regarding the purpose of our existence, then he will allow us the
grace to move forward in becoming what he intended in order to be the
examples that other men may see, causing them to then make a decision
to do the same. I must admit that the work that God has set out for
us
to do is a bit intimidating , but I rest assure in the knowledge of
who God is and that Jesus has already overcome the World and he is at
the right hand of the Father making intersession on my behave. I also
rest in the fact that Grace and Mercy are there to cover me even if I
make a mistake. I feel energized and strengthened to explore a new
area of relationship with God the father and I also feel comforted in
knowing that God won’t lead me down any roads that he is not willing
to walk down before me.

The Key To Reaching A City

This article was very helpful to me. I didn’t think that each city
has a purpose in the kingdom of God; I was looking at the small
picture not the big picture that God has set before us.

The article let me know that we have to come out of our comfort zone
and to follow God’s plans, and the only way this will be done is
through prayer. Like the author says, “The most important ministry we
will every have is a prayer ministry”. Through prayer, God will
direct us on how we can effectively reach our city.

How do you plan to reach the youth in your city?

To be quite transparent, the question posed this week and the
accompanying article made me have to really take a good hard look at
two important points of focus in my Youth Ministry. One, has my Youth
Ministry even considered formulating a plan for our city, let alone,
even have a plan in mind? The second point being, exactly how much
emphasis I have even put forth when comes to the issue of prayer in my
personal walk and in my minstries?

In my first full year on staff as Youth Leader, my biggest challenge
was to rebuild, from the ground up. a ministry that had been
leaderless for 8 months. I went about the task as I had approached
most of the tasks in my life. A mission to be accomplished, a
challenge to overcome, a puzzle to be solved. Not as a group of young
souls that needed a strong spiritual mentor to teach them about what
it means to be a disciple of Christ and a child of God. I know see
that my initial approach was a result of pride and arrogance on my
part. Now, my plans are to reach the youth under my care first, before
I can even begin to think about reaching the youth in my city.

That being said, this article by Bob Tolliver has really opened my
eyes and my spirit to the steps needed to be taken to reach not only
cities but reaching people for Christ. Actually, when I began reading
the article, I had no idea that the direction of the author's intent
for reaching cities was prayer. I was expecting a more, let's say,
practical and hands on approach to it. Which is exactly what we do as
humans. We are always letting our minds guide us into what WE can do,
not what does God want us to do. The points he discusses about finding
the spiritual entrances and knowing the spiritual history of a city
were subjects I had never considered in being effectective towards
reaching a city for God. I know see that any ministry trying to make
any effective effort towards reaching and changing a city and those
who live there, begin with one thing....prayer. I also like the way
the author broke it down into the different types of prayer that are
needed in these situations. The normal prayer we would pray for
change, access, wisdom, direction and discernment. We also need
strategic prayer that is more specific and aimed towards those issues
that need the most attention. Lastly, prevailing prayer that continues
through all types of setbacks, stresses and concerns. Prayer that
prevails through so that it may do all it was sent out to do.

This gave me even more hope that one day, with the help of other like
minded, loving people of God; that not only we will be able to reach
cities but states, regions and nations with prayer being at the
forefront and the base of all that we accomplish for this world
through God's strength, love, wisdom and guidance.
