1. Discuss which of the models or which combination of any of the five
discipleship model would work best in you ministry setting.

2. Comment On the statement: “if we can read between the lines of
Jesus’ ministry, it appears that His underlying philosophy was to make
disciples now, make them continually, and use whatever resources and
opportunities that were presently available for that purpose—but
never, never, stop molding people into Christ likeness.”

Chapter 7
1. Discuss which of the models or which combination of any of the five discipleship models that would work best in your ministry setting.

I believe, of the five models of discipleship mentioned in chapter seven by Barna in 'Growing True Disciples', a blend of components from each model would work best in our ministry.

We, as a body of believers at Rhema COG, are not focused on events, or programs in our discipleship ministry. However, aspects from these models will help us to take spiritual maturity seriously and to develop a church-wide culture that embraces, esteems and helps our members and visitors to be enthusiastic about becoming a disciple.

In the Competencies Model, we are currently integrating the 30 core dimensions in all aspects of ministry in our worship, evangelism, service, discipleship, etc. ministries. However, refining this measure of committing to personal development in the 30 competencies offers us the opportunity to continue to build up the body of Christ in wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God. The 30 core competencies relates to one's relationship with God; and are based on the Great Commission.

Many aspects from the Missional Model is relevant to our congregants. The six core competencies offered is helpful in progressing in spiritual maturity and developing a personal development plan toward improving in the vitally important area of discipleship.

The Worldview Model encourages us to improve our understanding of world events and issues and to make decisions and form personal opinions from a biblical perspective. A 'What would Jesus do' in that situation approach. This is relevant especially for our young people.

The Neighborhood Model is interesting in incorporating believers and visitors into fellowship and bible study and fellowship small groups to be spiritually nurtured, cared for and discipled. It involves a lot of leadership training. It is possible that we could adapt some of the objectives of this model for our congregation.

Chapter 8
2. Comment On the statement: “if we can read between the lines of
Jesus’ ministry, it appears that His underlying philosophy was to make
disciples now, make them continually, and use whatever resources and
opportunities that were presently available for that purpose—but
never, never, stop molding people into Christ likeness.”

I agree with this quote. One of top priorities of Jesus was to recruit, train, and disciple people. This was evident in his three year ministry in which He spent molding his twelve disciples and ministering and teaching anyone who had ears to hear the Word of the Lord, building community, healing and serving people. His message was Today is the day of salvation. Repent (now) and be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Time is of the essence with Jesus in making TRUE disciples. Jesus knew that when people are drawn closer to him in Christ-likeness, their salvation is secure, their faith and activity become more alive in making more disciples to become like Christ. People become actively engaged in carrying out the divine kingdom building purposes and will of God in worship, evangelism, stewardship, fellowship, preaching and teaching gospel truths, serving people and building communities of saved souls and true disciples for His kingdom.

Jesus taught us that there is a sense of urgency in consistently and persistently making true disciples. His truth is "...behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." (2 Corin. 6:2). His will is for us to make true disciples continually and never cease to pray for them, care for, guide, lead, encourage, spiritual nurture and motivate them, using whatever resources and opportunities that are presently available for that purpose, according to His desire, plan and perfect will.

The model that I chose was the mission model simply because it fit best with my approach to learning and giving information. I also like the 6 core qualities and believe that they are the basis for which every christian should try to achieve. It's also a process that is conceptually easy to comprehend. I understand that the accountability factor is very internal and can at times be manipulated according to the ability of the individual to be totally honest about his or her own personal growth.

2)I agree with the statement. Jesus' goal is to help us become like him. He used examples of coaching, mentoring, team building and many other methods to help develop the twelve that he chose to walk with him on earth and he instructed them to do the same. Then to instruct their disciples to do the same as with Timothy and Paul now being passed down through our generations and from us to the generations to come.

Chapter 7
I think all five models would work in our ministry, because all five
models promote spiritually maturity and character development in
shaping people lives. (p.140) I think the Missional Model would work
best because it is easy for everyone to understand so that would
include all age group. Also, this model is to help each one become
spiritual mature in being passionately committed to Jesus Christ
evaluating everything in their lives according to biblical standards,
being deeply committed to having a healthy family, being morally pure,
being evangelistically bold, and being socially responsible and
umpartful. This model address burnout and specialty classes and
overtime will incorporate the other models in this chapter.

Chapter 8

Webster’s definition for disciple is a pupil or follower of any
teacher, a disciple is not just a student or a learner buy also a
follower of one who applies what he learned. After each one of us
accepted Jesus as our personal savior we are too learned of Jesus
teaching and His ways and be part of his plan for our life, following
God’s pan is a big part of being a disciple so we make ourselves
available to get the resources we need to help disciple others to
follow Christ. As disciple we should be humble servant who love God
and others and want to share the greatest day of our life and want to
share the good news of Jesus Christ to others.
