1- what does Blackaby mean when he uses the term "crisis of belief"?
God invites us to work with Him. If we chose not to, we will fail. A term "crisis of belief" refers to the turning point or fork in the road, when we have the choice of doing the will of God or doing our will. A "crisis of belief" experience determines our response to God's assignments in our lives. It is the crucial
decision or judgment we make, based on our faith in God. It affirms what we believe about God, who, when, where, why, and how we think, feel, and respond to God's call. Jesus prayed, Luke 22:42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."
Our actions at this pivotal point determines whether or not we will proceed with God's help, His power, presence, activity, blessings and resources. It impacts our obedience and trust in His Word. We need to adopt the attitude of Christ and say, Or we can stubbornly chose to continue doing so things our way, that leads us down the wrong path of pain and suffering in the future. This relates to how we daily live our lives which is a testimonial of how important we believe and value God in our lives. John 14:12 states, "Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."
2-Comment on the statements:
A- What is more to God-what I say I believe or what I do? In Matt 15:8 the Lord sadly stated that, "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Loving God with all our heart, means obeying His will sacrificially regardless of the cost. Our belief in God reflects the degree to which we love God. Our love for God reflects the degree to which we will obey him. When we truly love God, our actions and obedience to God, determines how deep is our love relationship with Him. The reward for our obedience is that God will make Himself known to us.
We know God by experiencing Him as we obey Him. The more we love and obey Him, the more kingdom building work He accomplishes work through us by His invitation only. God considers our obedience better than our sacrifice. In 1 Samuel 15:22, according to the Prophet"Samuel, he asked, "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." Obedience is part of the process of experiencing God and is our moment of truth. Obedience reveals what we believe about God. The more we obey God's commands and do His will the more intimately we can connect with God, recognize His voice and hear him clearly as He speaks to us. Obedience also determines whether we will experience and encounter God on a higher level of his presence, power and blessings working in and through us.
B- You can't stay where you are and go with God. This statement relates to obeying the will of God. Jesus told His disciples, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself (adjustment), and take up his cross (adjustment), and follow Me (obedience). [Blackaby, p 229]. Committing to the will of God requires faith in action on our part. To be God-centered, we must be willing to adjust our lives and our plans to what He says to impact and influence others for Christ. He develops our character according to the assignment He gives us. If we go in obedience with God we must be willing to be available nd accessible to Him as long as the assignment takes, for whatever, whenever, where-ever, why and however He needs to accomplish His purposes and His will for His honor and glory. If we are obedient, God will never lead us where His divine favor and mercy cannot keep us. God will never fail us.
C- Dont ever tell God something you will NOT do that his will asks you to do. This statement is relevant to the cost of disobedience in refusing to do God's will. In Jer 7:23 God commanded, "Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you." Rebellion is rejecting God and disobeying His will and His commands. This behavior has serious consequences and is very costly which may include costing us our lives or the lives of others. God is a God of second chances when we disobey him but in some cases, we don't get a second chance because he is not obligated to give it to us. In Deut 28:15 and 20, God declared, "However, if you do not obey the LORD your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:..The LORD will send on you curses, confusion and rebuke in everything you put your hand to, until you are destroyed and come to sudden ruin because of the evil you have done in forsaking him."
I agree with Blackaby's affirmations that God initiates pursuing a love relationship with us. When God invites us in His work, He also takes the initiative to speak to us (via His means) and reveals His will to us, in His own time and in His own way and for His own purposes.
