Write a short summary on Chapter 4 Influencing with Values

I appreciated reading through this chapter by Wright on creating statements of values for organizations. In particular, I found the values statement on 'the Character of a college' to be an excellent resource of shared value commitments, cultural beliefs and behavioral expectations for our church organization. I believe that creating, implementing, enforcing and reinforcing the values and expectations of the culture is a key responsibility of leadership. It is a process that is strategically designed for the long term. It requires a solid commitment by leadership to embed these specific values in others as they endeavor to lead by example. On page 141, Wright offers a copy of the by-laws of a college community that regularly models behaviors that are influencing with values, that serve others in thanksgiving, wisdom, character, service, forgiveness, commitment.
We are the Church. We are the Body of the Living Christ, Jesus. We need to influence our world with values and daily require them of ourselves and others as The Character of a Church.

Bishop Smith,
It has been a sincere pleasure working with you and others in this the NYYLA course. I am greatly empowered, enriched and enabled to make a difference in ministry and in service to God and others by applying what I have learned to reach
and disciple this generation. Thank you for all that you do to make us better leaders, better disciples and more effective in discipling others in ministry. I encourage you in the Lord and may God continue to bless your endeavors as you seek to do His will in the years ahead. See you at camp meeting. Grace and Peace.

  INFLUENCING WITH VALUES

As Christian leaders our we should lead with a character that
produces like fruit. We should find our identity in our relationship with God and that identity should be nurturing to our organization. Our security in God as seen in Psalm 91 causes us to cultivate communities where diversity is embraced and
where wounded or scared relationships are healed. As we place our hope and trust in God we will begin to respect commitments more readily, we will keep
promises more consistently, and we will develop an environment that encourages us to trust not only God but also the community members that we serve amongst. Leadership is all about adding value to an organization and its members from a perspective that is anchored in Godly love.

As we look at the Collossian Church, we discover conflict is a good thing as long as it is resolved correctly and it brings about a positive change in the characters of those involved. How we respond to conflict is important. Diversity is needed in order to help the community grow to the place where differences such as approach, perspective, opinion, expectation, hope, commitment are embraced and celebrated throughout the community rather than be the cause of the infliction of pain. Conflict causes us to value our self as God chosen vessels. It also propels us to grow in Christ on the manor that he chooses . If
there is no conflict in our life , we become complacent and stagnant in our walk with Christ.

True leadership is to have the ability to comfortable being transparently you in the presence of others in order to cultivate a relationship of investment in those who follow. As you follow Christ it will influence the behaviors, vision, values, beliefs and attitudes of those who follow you to become more of what God desires them to be. Follower will also be able to develop other leaders who follow them.

People follow leaders who are credible and have integrity. This means to have  personal values/ beliefs, to poses the ability to
turn words into actions and to be trust worthy . Leaders are persons of great character . We do not become a great leader by seeking or holding certain positions.

Effective leadership is lived day by day. We become effective leaders by living lives based on what we believe in a way that develops credibility within the organization and amongst the community and peers. Our behaviors must line up with our what we proclaim as our core beliefs.

Every organization has a hidden culture. The culture is formed as an unconscious institutional response to six basic issues. These issues are : how the organization understands truth, time, space, human nature, human
activity and human relationships. Culture shapes the actions,
decisions, policies and procedures of the organization because it helps to form values that govern the organizations actions. If the culture produces value systems that are not in line with the affirmations the organization wishes to set forth then leaders we must patiently continue to reinforce the stated values until they are embedded deeply enough in the culture to last. Leaders create and sustain culture in with actions or the absence of actions. It is vital essential for leaders to examine the organizational culture and value system because culture determines certain strategies needed to get the organizations message across. Safe guards are also put in place so that leaders are held accountable for how liv up to values, standards and beliefs.

Leadership is the process of giving power away, not collecting it. It is about pouring yourself into your followers through the love of Christ. It's about transferring and forward movement power in order to influence and impact the people we serve to a place that they gain the ability to influence others in the organization. This way the mission of the organization is passed through generations of leaders and the cause moves progressively to a place of strength and power.

Phase III Week 3 Relational Leadership Chapter 3

I enjoyed reading this chapter because it helps to expound on the
characteristics of a Christian leader as it is relation to the
Christian organization and the kingdom of God. Creating strategies and
implementing as well as reinforcing the values of an organization are
key responsibility of leadership, by cultivating a culture that
supports the mission and overall goal vital in order to have
longevity,
page 141, the author speaks of a copy of the by-laws of a college
community which consistently models behaviors that influence values,
serve others in thanksgiving, wisdom, character, service, forgiveness,
commitment. We as Christians are called to enforce the value systems
of the Kingdom of God in this world.

We should influence our world positively on a daily basis, however it
is important that we also live according to what we say our values
require. We will face conflict while attempting to influence a
culture, but we should not shy away from it. Conflict provokes
thoughts and help with accountability. The Colossians Church was faced
with personal conflict as well as conflict with the current influences
in their world, however the Holy Spirit used a letter to instruct them
and now us how to overcome confliction challenges with the love of
God.

Godly love, and genuineness cultivates trust and a willingness to
imitate your actions which helps to raise new leaders to carry out the
vision or mission of any organization for generations to follow. It
embeds values that influence far beyond one persons style, type or
time in a leadership role.

Mr. Wright conclude this chapter with a pray of forgiveness, he say
the character of a leader is reflected when we seeks to influence the
culture of the organization. Even though we are leaders we have flaw
in our life and we must ask God for forgiveness we need to stand up
and lead his people effectively..
