Read Chapter 1 & 2 Henry Blackaby experiencing GOD

1. Share a testimony of an experience in your life that brought you to
know God more intimately and personally and gave you a deeper
knowledge of Him.
2. When God gives you a directive, how much should you trust your
human knowledge, common sense, and wisdom to guide your actions?
3. How should you respond to an assignment from God when you know you
don’t have the power, skill, or resources to accomplish what he is
asking you to do?

I look forward to reading your post.

1. A testimony of a time where God brought me to know him more
intimately was in August 18, 2008. I went to the doctor for a
cosmetic
issue that I have had since I was about 8 yrs old, but for some
reason
I felt a sense of urgency to get it taken care of that day. My sister
wasn’t going to use an appointment that she had made with our doctor
so, I called into work and took her appointment instead. As far as I
could tell I was feeling just fine with the exception of this minor
thing that I wanted to get taken care of. The nurse took my vitals
which is routine with every visit and left the room. It all seemed
very normal to me as I waited for the Dr. to come in so that we could
discuss the minimal issue. Well when the Dr. return she rushed into
the room and demanded that I take these pills , put on oxygen, lay
down, asked for the numbers of my next of kin and had the nurse hook
me up to a heart monitor. She began to explain that my blood pressure
was too high and my aorta was going to explode. She also stated that
the ambulance was on its way. In that moment I didn’t know what to
think. I felt confused and all I really knew to do was pray. I had
been listening to a song in the car earlier that morning that talked
about how God will take care of me and how no weapon formed against
me
shall prosper. When I arrived at the hospital my father was there
with
me, but they wouldn’t allow him to stay for some of the test they put
me through, so that left me all alone in the room for a while. I
couldn’t speak due to being overwhelmed. As I looked at all the
monitors and tubes I decided to write God a letter. I was there
sitting in a hospital bed not knowing whether I would live to see the
next day. I had nothing to loose, so I had a serious conversation
with
God in regards to him being a keeper of his word and a protector of
those who serve him, then I just begin to write pages and pages of
praise. I filled the notebook with worship. Well, I learned that day
that God and only God knows the thoughts that he has toward me. God’s
thoughts for me are good and they are designed to bring me to an
expected end. Nothing takes him by surprise and he will take care of
his children. When the doctors were done running their test at the
hospital; they determined that I could go home a few hours after I
had
arrived urgent status at the emergency room.

2. When God gives you a directive you should never depend on your own
thoughts, strength, ability, talents or logic to guide your actions.

3. I should respond in obedience because God is all knowing and he
will equip me with everything needed to accomplish the assignment
given.

In August of 1995, I felt a lump in my right breast after doing a self
breast exam; I went to my Doctor and she sent me for a mammogram. At
that time my family had no health insurance, besides wondering if I
had breast cancer I was wondering how I was going to pay the bills.
After having a mammogram and other tests done the doctor told me I had
breast cancer. Instead of getting upset, God gave me a peace; and a
scripture came to me: 1st John 4:4, Greater is he that is in me than
he that is in the world. As I said earlier, I had no health
insurance, but at the clinic they had a trial program called “Women
Partnership” which paid for the all the test I had done, and referred
me to a surgeon who told me I didn’t have to go through the clinic I
could come to his private office (he was one of the head doctors at
the hospital). He also told me not to worry how the bills was going to
get paid, I had enough going on with having breast cancer, after
having surgery and receiving the bill from my Doctor all office
visits, the surgery, and pre conference was written off by my
Doctor. I didn’t have to pay anything for those services,(I did get
insurance). At church I sang in the Ladies Ministries Choir and the
President gave me a song to lead, He Bought Me Out Alright, by Dorothy
Norwood and this song ministered to me through Chemo and Radiation.
When I would have a bad effect after chemo this song would just come
to me along with the scriptures about healing that my husband had
written down.

In 2007, after doing a self breast exam I felt a lump in my left
breast; after taking test the Doctor told me I had breast cancer
again but not the same as the one in my right breast because God had
healed me on that side. I had to go through surgery, chemo radiation
and, hair loss but besides all that God assured me if He bought me
through before he would do it again, and he did.. I thank God
everyday for what he has done for me. I have had close friends and
family members who have passed away from cancer and God spared my life
and let me live with having cancer not once, but twice.

2. When God give you instruction (direction) we should trust him
totally, but being honest we allow doubt to come in when God has
already gave us direction, we should let him be totally in charge .

3. I should respond with total agreement.

1-when i met Jesus i was 18 years old , I would never forget that day' a year prior i was begged to accept Him and i kept saying that i was not ready,
i was rebellious child, as many times God called me i resisted till a year later when i got sick ,
i went to all the doctors in my area plus others,  all my tests came back negative however i was losing weight by the minute;
finally i could not fight anymore i had to say yes to his will, since then He never let me down not even once. God was very patient with me, i thank Him very day for not giving up on me.

2- I would never rely on my human knowledge to do God's work most of the time we think that
our way is best, first and for most i need to have a personal relationship with God before i can engage myself in His vinegnard. God is perfect everything He does is perfect, i never heard a recall on what God makes or does. His directions are always right. i can count on the fact that God has already considered every factor that must be considered.
3- the best way is to pray and trust God because He is all powerful, i do not have to doubt my ability, my strength
or resources to complete His assignments, He will enable me to accomplish what He calls me to do

Quest #1. A particular event that drew me closer to experiencing God was in November 21, 2003, the evening of my grandson, Malachi's birth. During childbirth, my daughter Melissa suffered a serious drop in blood pressure to 80/60mg. This event was very dangerous and life-threatening for both of them. I was just inside of the birth room and was earnestly engaged in prayer for God to restore my daughter's health and to ensure a safe delivery of my grandson. To add insult to injury, the life-saving medication she needed was locked in a medicine cabinet on the hospital maternity ward, and the key could not be found.

Instantly, God heard my urgent prayer and He stepped right in and by
His saving hand of grace and His loving mercy, He made everything go from near death to abundant life. He caused the missing medicine cabinet key to appear (in an unlikely place). The doctor administered the stabilizing meds for my daughter's blood pressure and we experienced a miraculously wonderful natural childbirth without harm to both mother and her new baby boy, Malachi.
This frustrating nail-biting experience proved to me that God is faithful and that He does keep His promises and answers when we call as stated in Jerm 33:3. ln Isa 26:3-4, "God will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on him, because he trusts in him who is our everlasting strength." The Lord increase my faith that He is able (Ephes. 3:20).

That day, my faith in Him soared. It was humbling that my God, so omnipotent, Supreme and Sovereign heard my desperate urgent prayer and took complete control of everything. As a result of God's divine intervention in answering my prayer, my faith, love and devotion grew in a relating to Him more personally and knowing Him more intimately and appreciating a more genuine and intense level of experiencing God as Jehovah Jireh and Jehovah Nissi. My family and I experienced His divine protection and provisions in a unique and personal way.

Quest #2. In God we live, breathe and move and have our being. We can do nothing apart from God. God created us for a love relationship with him. To trust God is to know him and to know him is to understand who he is. I agree with Blackaby that we then can truly experience him when we know God and not just know about Him. God is love (1 John 4:16). In experiencing God we find true and total love for ourselves and to love others. God's loving will for us is always best. God is omnipotent-all powerful-He can empower, equip and enable us to do His will. God is omnipresent-our Jehovah Shammah- He is always with us. and omnicient-all knowing. His directives, guidance, instructions are always right. that He knows what's best for us God is total love perfect, holy and total love. When we are given a directive from God we should operate by faith in the mind set of Christ, a mind not of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. (1 Tim1:7). We are experiencing him personally as we follow His directive and obey Him. In this way we will know (WWJD) "what would Jesus do" in every situation. We need to pay attention to Prov 3:5,6 which says,"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
I believe that God's directives will not lead us where his grace cannot keep us.

Quest #3
God designed us with our limited resources, human wisdom, knowledge, specific gifts and talents, skills and abilities, including common sense. However, we should not totally depend, rely or trust them. They are subject to failure and flaws. I agree with Blackaby (p29)that we should ask God to develop within us a complete confidence to trust God anytime he has an assignment for us. Through prayer, fasting, study of the Word of God and meditation we increase our faith in Him and prepare for the task at hand. We need to turn to God for the power, strength, insight, skill, and resources required to guide our actions and get the job done; even when we feel inadequate or ill-equipped. We can choose to have little faith or have great faith in God, like David and Goliath, Daniel in the lion's den or Moses at the Red Sea. We are required by God to watch and pray, trust Him and obey by faith and say "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me." (Philippines 4:13).

Mom, it took me a few days to collect myself enough to reply to your post! I never knew that God worked so greatly in your favor- I mean he healed you that was enough for me. I had been to so many funerals in such a few days at that time of people who had cancer, so I was just excited about your healing. The fact that he paid the bill as well is just amazing!! I am so encouraged to keep moving! Psalms 37:25 Once I was young, and now I am old.
Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned
or their children begging for bread.

1. Share a testimony of an experience in your life that brought you
to
know God more intimately and personally and gave you a deeper
knowledge of Him.

Since December 1991, I have been diagnosed and treated for several
different medical issues including Stage 1 Non-Hodgkins Lymphatic
Cancer (6 mos. of Chemotherapy), Mild Stroke, Congestive Heart
Failure, Heart Attack, Implanted Heart Assist Device, Heart Transplant
Surgery, Type I Diabetes, Coronary Artery Disease and placement of 4
Arterial Heart Stents. This lasted until December of 2003. Through all
of this, I claimed to know God and considered myself a Christian while
all the time being angry, worried and unsure with God and the path He
had me on.
On December 17th, 2003, I went to the hospital for what had become a
routine procedure for me, a bi-monthly Angiogram/Biopsy. That is a a
catheter being snaked though your main arteries and placed into the
chambers of your heart to check the pressures and to retrieve pieces
of heart tissue to determine whether your immune system was rejecting
your transplanted organ. I remember being in a hurry as it was a short
procedure but with a long prep time and a long recovery time. I was
coaching HS basketball and had an away game later that day so I was
insistent on getting back in time. During the procedure, they pump a
fluid through your arteries to make them easier to see on the X-ray
machine. During this, one of my arteries became 100% blocked and began
to spasm. I thought it was another heart attack and began to ask God,
"Not like this please" The doctor was able to relieve the pressure but
insisted on me staying overnight for observation. That was the last
thing I remembered. 29 days later, I awoke in ICU. not realizing that
I had a massive heart attack, loss of pulse for 45 minutes, my organs
began to shut down, had been on a heart/lung machine and heart assist
device until I recieved a 2nd Heart Transplant on Jan.4th 2004. that
my chest cavity had remained open and my chest muscle was wrapped
around my heart and the the whole thing was being protected by an air
tight plastic sealed vacuumed tight to my chest and that for the past
11 days, I had been in a unconcious, semi coma state with a feeding
tube, tracheotomy tube and IV's all connected to me. It took from Jan
15th to March 8th 2004 for me to heal and recover enough to return
home.
After a few months, I began to learn from my wife and family the full
details of what I had been through and one thought kept my mind and
spirit and soul restless. How did so many events work together to save
my life? I believed in God but still was a firm believer in fate up
until that point but now I could not explain away the multitude of
miraculous things that allowed me to continue to live and breathe.
After wrestling with emotions and my own limited knowledge, I had to
acknowledge that God had truly stepped in and made a way for me when
it seemed like it was over. I even remember the enemy trying to play
on those emotions and telling me I was living "on borrowed time." But
God sent His Word to me in Jeramiah 29:11 ans told me, " For I know
the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are to prosper you and
not harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future." Never before did
those words mean as much as they did at that very point in my life. I
felt as if God had reached down from heaven and spoke directly to my
heart. At that point, I knew that I moved from knowing God to actually
experiencing God as a real, living, breathing person in my life.I
began to understand His Word more now and His promises to us. I now
tell people that I was "saved" when I was 6 years old but I met and
knew God for the first time when I was 36 years old. Since then, I
have been diagnosed with End Stage Kidney Failure and am presently on
daily Dialysis and I am on the list for a Kidney Transplant. But I no
longer worry and fret like I used to. My God is bigger that anything
that could happen to me physically and I count it as a privlilege and
an honor to share my testimony with others about what God has done for
me and how He still heals, He still restores and He still works. I am
now happy to say that I KNOW God and that every day, I try to
experience Him just a little more in my life.

2. When God gives you a directive, how much should you trust your
human knowledge, common sense, and wisdom to guide your actions?

When God gives a directive to you, it is His will for your life and
for His glory to be shown through it. If we allow ourselves into that
equation by trying to utilize our own knowledge, sense and wisdom to
tell us what to do: it undermines God's true purpose for us in the
first place. If we truly die to self and are now are slaves to
obedience and righteousness in the will of God, our own feeling s and
emotions have no place within that., If we allow God to work through
us, then we will be able to reap the rewards of following His leading
and utilizing His wisdom and power for His purposes for our benefit.

3. How should you respond to an assignment from God when you know you
don’t have the power, skill, or resources to accomplish what he is
asking you to do?

We should always stand firm in fact that when we are weak, He is
strong. Where we don;t have the skill for a task that He will provide
the skill set or the skilled person/s for it. That when we are
lacking the resources to complete a task, that He will provide all the
resources we will need and more, if necessary. We should respond with
faith and trust that God would never send us on an assignment that He
has not equipped and prepared us for.Sometimes, we say we can't do it
because in our own power, we can't. Our limited ability to reach
beyond what we think and see keeps us from trusting God. But once we
truly have faith in what God has called us to do, we know that all
things are possible through Christ and God, our Father.
