This is your final reminder that Tempest Approacheth, like stygian horror from deep in the bowels of the Earth. If you have not yet registered, or let us know you're coming, please do so ASAP. And if you have any friends and/or family who need an introduction to the hobby or the community, by all means bring them along - just kindly give me a heads up as early as possible. We're in the same location as last year (Westin Tyson's Corner, 7801 Leesburg Pike Falls Church, Virginia 22043), which you may remember is a pretty nice hotel with lots of great food nearby. Our prize list this year is as nice as it's ever been, with some awards that will look really great on someone's desk or wall. And, to top things off, looks like Tempest may well have a big effect on the Grand Prix results. As a reminder, the schedule this year is:
- Friday, 10/9
- 09:00 AM: Registration opens, open gaming all day
- 07:00 PM: Diplomacy Round 1
- Saturday, 10/10
- 10:00 AM: Dip Round 2 [Jersey Round: Wear your favorite hockey jersey, or other sports team jersey, or dress (and act) like you're from Joisey]
- 06:00 PM: PTKS hobby meeting
- 07:00 PM: Crystal Ball Variant (http://www.diplom.org/Online/variants/crystalball.html)
- Sunday, 10/11
- 08:30 AM: Dip Round 3 [Timed round: will be called no later than 2:45 PM]
- 03:15 PM: Awards Ceremony
As mentioned earlier, the scoring system is the Carnage/DM system, which is 7000 pts for first place board position, 6000 for second...on down to 1000 pts for last place board position, plus 1 pt for each SC held at the end of the game. Draw votes are unanimous among surviving players. For the hobby meeting, in addition to the PTKS Board elections, we're also going to be soliciting input which will be helpful for evaluating possible venues for Tempest in upcoming years - basically, we're going to be looking for consensus on the best possible combination of price, accommodations, location, and other considerations. If you have any thoughts on this subject, we're looking to hear them and see how we can do better. All of this info (and more), is also available at www.ptks.org/tempest.php
Thanks,Joe
