FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 20, 2017

The South Sudanese Community in the United States of America will be holding a rally at the United Nations to condemn the government of South Sudan and its collaborating countries, including Egypt, which have continued to wage war on innocent civilians and execute the policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing in South Sudan.

As the world watches without taking any action to stop the escalation of violence in the Upper Nile State alongside other parts of South Sudan; the government of South Sudan has recently hired the Egyptian Air Forces to target the camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in villages of Collo (Shilluk).

Since January 27th, 2017, ground troops of government of South Sudan, rebel forces of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPM/A-North), Darfur Rebel Movements (Justice and Equality) and advanced air support from the Egyptian War planes (Antonov) have brutally attacked, killed hundreds of innocent civilians who are sheltering inside the villages of Wau Shilluk and Pamadho, north of Malakal town.

The International Community should no longer ignore this ongoing genocide perpetrated by the government of South Sudan on the Nuer, the Equatorians, the Shilluk, and the minority groups in Western Bahr El Ghazal.

The rally will be led by South Sudanese Community leaders; Mr. Pagan Amum, former Secretary General of the SPLM, Mr. Bangasi Joseph Bakasora, Former Governor of Western Equatoria, Mrs. Angelina Teny, Former Minister in the government of National Unity, Human Rights activists, and the leaders of the church, and, to be confirmed, Madame Rebecca Garang, Former First Lady of South Sudan.

This rally will be mainly to call on the World Community to immediately intervene and end the ongoing genocide that is being carried out by President Kiir in South Sudan.
