SUDANESE MARCH FOR FREEDOM, PEACE AND JUSTICE
NEW YORK, June 2019 – On June 29, 2019 at 11am (gathering begins at 10am EST), the Sudanese American community and human rights
activists will demonstrate at the United Nations, starting at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza ( 2 Ave & E 47 St ) down 2nd Ave,
This march will provide a forum for the Sudanese American Community and others living in the United States to
stand in solidarity with the people of Sudan and to call upon the United Nations Security Council to immediately
investigate and act on the documented credible evidence of the massacre of tens of civilians including children and
pregnant women as well as hundreds of injured. This heinous crime was committed on 3 June 2019 when the
Transitional Military Council (TMC) launched a violent armed attack on a peaceful sit-in protest in the capital
The sit-in was part of a peaceful protest movement that erupted in the whole country since 19 December 2018
against the dictatorial and corrupt regime of Omar al-Bashir and its remnant military supporters. During the attack,
thousands of armed soldiers, Janjaweed militias and other elements opened fire with live ammunition on the
protesters. Thereafter, concerted attacks and a campaign of terror was launched by the Janjaweed around
Khartoum and in several cities in Sudan, resulting in the mass killings in an attempt to crack down on the peaceful
protest. The brutal attacks on civilians are continuing for the fourth day, and a wide array of human rights
violations has been reported in Khartoum and various cities, including beating people to death. Many dead bodies
were found in the Nile river and hundreds of people are reported missing.
● Take measures to prevent further violations of the international human rights law in Sudan.
● Investigate the brutal crackdown on the peaceful protest, the use of live ammunition with the intent of killing
and the use of excessive force and other human rights violations; in the aim of holding the guilty parties
accountable and bring the perpetrators to justice.
● Call for immediate restoration of telecommunications & internet services in Sudan which have been
disconnected by the TMC to hide its crimes from the eyes of the world.
● Call for the disarming of all militias & paramilitary groups in Khartoum and relocate these groups outside the
capital and cities of Sudan.
● Call for the immediate resignation of the Military Council for its involvement in crimes against humanity
targeting peaceful unarmed protesters; crimes that included murder, rape, beatings and other serious human
rights violations.
● Support solutions that result in a peaceful transition to a civilian-led Government paving the way for freedom,
peace, and justice; a dream that millions of our people have been chanting out loudly and clearly in the streets
both in Sudan and around the world.
● Rally behind a united opposition that is ready to take over with a valid and viable political and economic agenda
for the future. This agenda is to be implemented through a national, civilian and transitional government which
will hold power for a period of three years, after which national free and fair elections are to be organized.
