Well, we've had a brief respite, but once the Olympics are over next week the political season will move into high gear.
Both parties look like they're nominating mavericks outside their mainstream. Both candidates are struggling to be true to their roots yet still enlist the support of the old guard they think is needed to get elected. As a result, the tentacles of those with money, influence, and power are taking hold.
Even at the risk of stirring things up, community inevitably involves issues of governance. We might as well start now. Here are some questions for discussion:
1. Is it possible to create a national/international community and leadership structure free of such influences?
2. What might it look like?
3. How do we get there (develop such a system) when even those who are sympathetic to the cause are corrupted or turned along the way?
4. How can such leaders govern effectively when so many influences try to pull them back into the mess we need to escape?
5. Would you recommend a candidate embrace such powers and positions to get elected in hope of they will have the ability to resist such influences to follow their inner compass once in office?

PS Please, try not to rail for/against one party/candidate or another. You can save that for another day.
