Hello all,

I wanted to let you know about a hell of a show happening Tuesday at
Metropolis. The band that is headlining is called the Julie Mittens,
and they are coming all the way from the Netherlands to perform.
Their latest CD is on Holy Mountain records (OM, Six Organs of
Admittance, Wooden Shjips, so many others) and they will not
disappoint.

Here is the skinny:

September 9th @ 8pm
$5.00 to $10.00 Donation Requested

Metropolis Underground
615 S. Main St. (backside of building)
N. Syracuse, NY 13212

The Julie Mittens are a Dutch power trio who specialize in extended
improvisation inspired by John Coltrane's The Olatunji Concert: The
Last Live Recording and the knowledge that Fushitsusha has more to do
with Thelonious Monk than Blue Cheer, guitarist Aart-Jan Schakenbos,
bassist Michael van Dam, and drummer Leo Fabriek consistently wreak
havoc with lavish, textural, speaker-blowing meltdown jams; they surge
with psychedelic power and a stellar rhythm section on the four studio
recordings here. About the name-- it allegedly means something to the
members of the group, but they won't say what. A Dutch thing? Just
don't ask the guitar player to see his pick.

American Sphinx play a combination of heavy drones, psychedelic
improvisation, and small blasts of free jazz. The duo is comprised of
Michael Hentz on guitar and Jarek on drums.
